Something that really bugs me is how self harm sits tightly in this narrow box I don’t find myself in at all. Cutting oneself isn’t just associated with certain age, symptoms and causes, but there’s also no clinical information about anything else.

I’m not a teenager. I didn’t use to do it as a teenager. I don’t have feelings of shame related to it. I don’t try to hide the marks. I have no trouble talking about it. I don’t enjoy seeing blood, id rather not see any. I don’t think about cutting every time i hold something sharp.

It’s not like I feel I don’t fill some kind of requirements, but more like there is no clinical reason for me and I have no one to relate to. It’s as if my case just shouldn’t exist to begin with. 

It sucks.

Yet still my worst pet peeve is how almost every single source material I have is clearly meant for the people dealing with a person who self harms, not the person themselves. Even when it’s an article written by someone with experience, they’re not speaking to others like them. “Parents, listen to your kids. Teenagers, don’t look down on your friends. Young one, your life is only beginning so you should talk about your issues.” Worst is when the only omnipresent advice is “find help”.

What if I’m already on antidepressants. What if I already go to therapy. What if I’m already speaking with a professional about self harm and all other imaginable issues in my life. Then what. What’s going to help me then.
