GREAT NEWS: IHSA upholds policy on transgender athletes, seeks clarity on state conflict with Trump order
BJ Lutz at WGN:
CHICAGO (WGN) — The Illinois High School Association this week said it would keep in place its policy to allow transgender athletes to compete in high school sports competitions despite an executive order from President Donald Trump because the order may conflict with state law. In a Tuesday letter, the IHSA’s board president and executive director said the Illinois Human Rights Act “requires that transgender athletes be permitted to participate in events and programs aligning with the gender with which they identify.” “Compliance with the Executive Order could place the IHSA out of compliance with the Illinois Human Rights Act and vice versa,” IHSA Board President Dan Tulley and Executive Director Craig Anderson wrote in response to a March letter from 40 Republican lawmakers demanding to know how the IHSA was going to “amend policy to comply with federal directives.” The Illinois Human Rights Act took effect in 2006 and expressly prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, which it defines as “actual or perceived heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality, or gender-related identity, whether or not traditionally associated with the person’s designated sex at birth.” “The IHSA simply desires to comply with the law and takes no position on which of the foregoing is correct,” the IHSA leaders wrote, seeking clarity. “Given the conflict described above, however, we are left in an untenable position.” The IHSA clarified that its transgender policy only applied to state series competition with which it sponsors. Member schools determine the participation of transgender students during the regular season.
[...] The IHSA told WGN that of the 320,000 student-athletes competing in all IHSA sports at all levels, only three people born male asked for and received waivers to compete in girls’ sports last year. The organization granted just two waivers the year before.
GREAT NEWS: The IHSA Illinois High School Association will keep its policy permitting trans athletes to compete in high school sports competitions matching their gender identity despite Donald Trump's anti-trans executive order barring trans girls from girls' sports (EO 14201). 🏳️⚧️

Hey guys, my IHSA stable has been struggling to stay afloat due to the pandemic. The state of Maryland has completely restricted all travel outside of the home, meaning all lessons have stopped. My coach has already given away one horse and she has been applying for a couple small business loans with no success. I know it’s a rough time for everyone, but if you have anything to spare or can spread the word, it would be greatly appreciated!
Some more info from the current team leadership:
Because of the current pandemic, coach Star Dalley has had to completely shut down The Other Left at Oatlands Stables' lesson program. However, there are still 27 lesson horses in need of care. These horses are used to teach the weekly lessons to the hundreds of students that have passed through Star's program. Because equestrian lesson programs are shut down due to non-essential status, the money paid for lessons that is usually used to pay for the horses' care is no longer coming in. We know that times are tough, but any donations that you are able to make would be greatly appreciated in contributing to their care. All donations will go directly towards hay, grain and farrier bills for our lesson horses. Any size donation is welcome, although we are offering sponsorship levels for large donations. Anyone who is able to make a recurring $200/month donation until the end of the pandemic will receive a free photoshoot with the horse of your choice. Anyone who is able to make a recurring $300/month donation until the end of the pandemic will receive a free photoshoot with the horse of your choice and a free lesson with head trainer, Star Dalley. The lesson horses, staff, and clients all greatly appreciate your generosity and support.
Trying to write a story based on characters who do equestrian eventing and compete in the NCEA college competitions, specifically in English riding style
I have some basic knowledge and have been researching but if anyone has done it before and would let me ask questions I would love to pick your brain!
So this was my weekend. How was Yours?
