RB: Drummer Roger Taylor wrote a song in which Roger took a rare lead vocal, called 'I'm in love with my car'! RT: The guy who used to mix our sound, our out front sound, and our sort of, very dedicated life-long, uh, roadie at the time, he'd stuck with us through all the hard times, was a guy called John Harris. And, uh, really, he didn't have a girl-friend, he didn't like to eat much... um, he wasn't interested in stamps, or drinking, or any of the normal interests of life, really, y'know. But he would wash his car a lot. And he was very interested in and fond of his car. I like cars, myself, and I can relate to that.
Roger Taylor talking about the inspiration for 'I'm in love with my car', interviewed by disc jockey Doug "Redbeard" Hill for In the Studio with Redbeard.
First released on the 6th of August 2011, exact interview recording time unknown (Redbeard uses a lot of archival excerpts & doesn't often indicate when he does so). (X) If you know more, please share!
I cut out Roger's unfunny (imho) misogynistic car joke from the above soundbite - I added it under the cut for those who'd like to know the whole quote:
