iit kharagpur celebrates 71 years of its foundation. in 1939, there being only seven engineering colleges with 2,217 students in the country. which affect industrial infrastructure in our country. to solve this problem, a committee by sir jogendra singh was made in 1947. which was followed by 22 members committee headed by nalini ranjan sarkar, also know as sarkar committee. on 18th august 1951, iit kharagpur laid its foundation, becoming the oldest iit in the country.
