What are the critical elements that constitute a "riot" and when do riots offend you? If we view rioting as a mass temper tantrum expressed through violence and property damage, then white sports fans do that almost yearly.
A group can burn and loot when a team scores less points than another, but when paid public servants kill citizens, they have to be perfection?
Historically, riots have been tools for intimidation. destroying populations, taking land and valuables. White people rioted through the early 1900s in America, slaughtering burning and looting entire black townships, just because they were black.
Police and policies have been rioting on black bodies, destroying people and property every single day of your life, but here you come now, when the beaten, marinated in centuries of trauma pain and distress, start mustering a response. Here you come now, pointing fingers.
You seem to really hate when people do "things that aren't helping".
Martin Luther King, while saying he doesn't support riots, also said that he understands why they are happening, and that they will continue to happen until the people in power, the majority white people, start making actual positive change in the way their black brothers are treated.
Things that "aren't helping" happen every day though, which means you've had a million opportunities to research and contribute to their causes. But you'll sit here and point fingers and call them savages and animals, but you've never gone to help, you've never been out there in a peaceful demonstration?
So what kind of violence is it that you disapprove of? Only the black kind?
The reaction to oppression has always been spun and marketed as validation for the status quo.
And then when they rebel against it, you get to sit back and say "well they'll never get rights that way".
You want to condemn black people being violent against PROPERTY, but you're not condemning the police killing actual PEOPLE without just cause?
When ever I see someone saying "but what about the rioters", it reads to me as justification of mistreatment of an entire group of people. No one bothers to mention all the protesters and the victims' families trying to step in, the fact that rival gangs that came together to protect places, and the next day, to clean up. Just "omg what animals you'll never be given rights now". It's just all more of the same bullshit that led to these protests in the first place.
