a random monday in march
i started the day with my usual pace. woke up at 5:20 in the morning to get ready. half of an hour was allotted for me to shower and another half hour to dress up, and to fix myself as well as my things that i will be needing in class. at 6:20, i left our condo unit to ride the university shuttle that was parked right in front of our building to wait for other students. the shuttle will then leave at exactly 6:30 just to make sure that no one will miss the 7AM class. i only have three subjects to attend to every monday— Interdisipilinaryong Pagbasa at Pagsulat sa mga Diskurso ng Pagpapahayag, Readings in the Philippine History, and that fucking The Contemporary World.
i arrived at pamantasan minutes before my first class starts. i walked straight to the gazebo, the one that is near the psychology laboratory, the place where my blockmates and i spent most of our mornings talking and catching up with each other, reading a lot of court cases, laws, and doctrines, and studying for our upcoming exams or quizzes. and as far as i can remember, that is also the place that have witnessed how the sun violently slaps our faces and how the wind carefully touches our skin as we manage to exchange some random dialogues that formed our very first conversation.
on a random monday in march, i found you there, sitting beside my usual spot. your tiny eyes were fixed on your papers, probably reading the court cases given by our prof. i don’t really remember how i greeted you that day but i know it only adds to the collection of my lousy good morning greetings to you. i decided to sit next to you even though there’s a lot of seats available, and just like the usual, tried to play it cool. my right arm kept on touching your left arm every time one of us moves but i don’t find it irritating. it actually kind of validates me because even though we are not talking, at least i know that you’re not uncomfortable with my presence and you’re fine with that set up. our usual mornings were full of those tiny little moments— quiet but soothing. we always choose to remain that way until others arrive.
minutes after 7:00, the president made an announcement that our prof won’t be able to make it. a lot of our blockmates, even your friends, are fixing their things to leave the gazebo and find a place wherein they can settle with their readings. they asked you to join them which you quickly declined, saying that you will just stay there.. with me. char.
when i started writing this, i was determined to make a narrative that is basically just about me and my last day in manila. it was too late when i noticed that the focus of the story was gradually shifting to you and i’m basically just exposing how you literally affects my entire system. and there, i realized that you are no longer a random person that only make sense when i choose to rationalize my thoughts.
you became more than that.
you became the sky that is resting above my head, and the ground that my feet will always long for.
you became the heat of the scorching sun, and the moon that shelters and fascinates me at night.
you became the water of the sea, of the lake, and of the faucet, and the drought in the month of march.
and you became the every element that makes up that whole random monday in march.
grabe legit na dapat talaga on this one i will merely talk about my last day in manila lang pero ano nangyari :—( tho kasi we really spent a lot of time together talaga noong march 2. post ko ba pic namin? chz i won't reveal it yet. :pp
