Just love when you get contaminated at work with allergies and realize that now you'll be spending half of the remainder of your shift running in and out of the bathroom
I recently took a trip down to San Francisco to visit Paul + Cameron. It was super fun to be reunited with great friends and founding Maplehood Kitchen members, and of course included lots of good food and cooking together.
Knowing that I love all things in sandwich form, they said Ike’s Place couldn’t be missed. I wandered over one day while they were both busy working and took my sandwich to a nearby park. A good picnic with a mostly good sandwich. The menu was huge and the line was short and I got kind of overwhelmed resulting in not the best decision. I chose the Pilgrim, which has tofurkey and cranberry sauce on a sub bun, just like a Thanksgiving leftover sandwich. At the counter, the guy asked me if I wanted to add a few things, listing off all possible additions. Not thinking of what was already included, I added mayo, pickles, and jalapeños. All are things I normally put on a sandwich, but not so good with cranberry sauce. It was kind of weird, spicy and sweet. But I’m sure if I went there more than once I’d figure out how to order. There were tons of vegan and vegetarian options that sounded really good, and everything on my sandwich individually was pretty tasty.
After being overwhelmed by sandwich options, I asked the guy working there what his favorite chip flavor was. He directed me to Zapp’s Voodoo chips, which he explained as a combination of barbecue and salt and vinegar. They were so delicious, tangy and sweet. Perhaps I should have asked him for a sandwich recommendation as well. I’ll have to make my way back for another sandwich next time I’m in SF.
Ike's. MPLS
I'm starting to eat again.. And I had my first craving for something back home in weeks. Which is amazing cause for awhile I have had no desire to eat. But what I'm craving is... Ike's Buhhhrowww... I'm not a big deli sandwich guy but Ike's is hands down the best sandwhich place. I'd love a Matt Cain right now 😞 Still don't miss chipotle or in n out lol.
