Not studio photo, need to setup my photobooth, but I have finished “Boss Machorn” for the Privateer Press Riot Quest game.
“As the former leader of the Devil Dogs mercenary company, Sam MacHorn is known for two things: wrecking face and getting paid! And with her custom-built Ironhead suit, she’s ready to put in some overtime!”

The Iron Kingdoms Kickstarter starts on January 26th. Very excited. Love this setting.

Based on the Iron Kingdoms roleplaying game developed by Privateer Press
In a world with steampowered "Warjacks" controlled via telepathic bond, constant conflict between varied nations, and dragons that blight the very land around them it's not unusual to see Blighted Pirates or zombies. Dark magic lies hidden in forgotten ruins and destroyed towers as remnants from an age of slavery at the hands of the terrible Orgoth Empire. Science and Magic blend to create monstrosities and miracles with the only distinction coming from the person's perspective. Death waits just a breathe or two away and yet still people live their lives. Adventurers and Mercenaries are in every tavern. With all of this there's rarely a dull moment.
So I realize I keep tagging things as “Quickfinger” whenever it involves crocodilians, but I don’t think anyone on this site (except for Samu) knows who the hell I’m talking about.
Meet Quickfinger, a Gatorman who picked up a sniper rifle and determined it was his life’s work to become the best damned gator with a gun in the world.

FUN GAMING FACT: Warmachine, the number two titan of tabletop wargaming, got its start as a set of third party D+D sourcebooks called Iron Kingdoms! The D+D version had some.... problems, especially compared to how things shook out in later series canon, and may have suffered by being released in direct competition with Eberron, which had a similar kind of aesthetic and vibe of "Steampunk industrial revolution in a fantasy world." But while Eberrron went more heavily down the magic route, Iron Kingdoms revelled in the industrial side of things. Trains, gears, grimy workshops, firearms, ti's all here. And while Eberron filled out it's robot quota with the Warforged as a full player race, Iron Kingdoms went big with their robotic war machines. Let's face it, Warjacks are the star of the show here and they knew it going into the wargame. More recently they've released another edition of the Iron Kingdoms RPG based on their own original wargame rules, and it looks alright. They seem to know what they're doing with the setting at least, the only difference between an armored greatcoat and leather armor is that the greatcoat is slightly cheaper.
Campaign Completed
Well, after a year and a half, I have finally finished running another campaign, this time, the Witchfire Trilogy from Privateer Press, using the Iron Kingdoms RPG for a group of my online friends using Discord.
This is one that’s been sitting on my wishlist for over ten years now, ever since I first picked up the book at my FLGS (sadly now closed). A fun campaign in the world of my favorite minature wargame, I never got the opportunity to run it in the original 3.5 setting, but almost two years ago, I converted it to IKRPG, and got my Saturday night group to start playing.
Last night, the players defeated the final boss in an epic fight that had us all on the edge of our seats (I was worried about a TPK, the former King was being a hell of a badass). Fortunately, the party managed to pull through, defeat the king, save the city and prove the innocence of their friend. They spent some time chatting with each other and a few prominent NPCs, then decided to go someplace warm with lots of rum for a vacation. I posted some epilogue text, describing what happened in the following years, and left off with a plot hook for a sequel campaign.
I’ve run several campaigns over the years, and this is the fourth that I’ve succesfully completed without burning out. It’s a good feeling. I love running games for my friends, there’s no better feeling in the world for me. Making worlds come to life through description, seeing my players’ characters interact with the people I’ve put in them. I love every part of it.
I especially like writing epilogue text, ala the Fallout ending slides. I feel it adds a personal touch, showing the players just how their actions have affected the other NPCs and the world in which their characters lived.
Of course, now that this campaign is done, it’s on to the next one. A GM’s work is never done, after all. I’ve been writing up this one for a little while in anticipation of the finale.
I’m going to run a Pathfinder game based off of the classic Quest for Glory adventure games, introduce my players to my favorite game series ever through the lens of a long term RPG campaign! I may just put up a few posts with my designs and thoughts on this. After my players get past those points, of course. Wouldn’t want to spoil anything for them :)
Hey just found your blog and I gotta say I like a lot of the stuff you got here, I wanted to ask if you might still be making Iron Kingdoms stuff, maybe some Legion of Everblight homebrews?
I haven’t been playing much Iron Kingdoms recently so I’ve not had much inspiration for such. I tend to create for the games I am actively interacting with and currently that’s D&D 5th Edition.
Will I create more IKRPG content in the future? Likely, but currently I’m working on D&D5e, Open Legend, Legend of the Wulin, & Pugmire campaigns so perhaps you’ll see content for those in the future.
