Maybe the most damming thing about Nolans odyssey is i havenât seen a single gifset from it
so wildly obnoxious when you agree with the starting point of someone's stance only for them to hard turn into things you DON'T agree with and now you have to defend the thing that was originally annoying you
"too many authors in the current market are focusing on selling 'spice' instead of telling interesting stories"
"oh yeah, i agree. i started reading one that i heard a lot about and it just wasn't-"
"and it's all of these women reading their fucking mommy porn out in public like FREAKS"
*through gritted teeth* "people should be allowed to read whatever they want, and actually these books should be left alone and you should shut up about it"

I have just found. the COOLEST website???
Lost Kitchen Scrolls
It has a huge variety of historical recipes from different regions, taken from manuscripts, transcribed and translated, and a whole section of notes about the context for the recipe. It's really fun and I AM going to try a couple of these recipes.
Look at how this lamb recipe is presented:
This is just such a fun way to learn more about historical foodways and discover traditional cuisine.
Look at all the filters you can use:
Maybe if I can forage some good blackberries this year, I can make a 300 year old recipe for blackberry wine!
Anyway. Check out Lost Kitchen Scrolls.
The thing about Seattle is that I'm not in walking distance of a Taco Bell. When I was living in LA, I was in inconvenient walking distance of a Taco Bell. When I was living in LA, I was in inconvenient walking distance of a Taco Bell. In Seattle? When I had wheels, I was 10-15 minutes from the closest Taco Bell, but now that I don't, it's transit-accessible. Which means that while I used to go to Taco Bell about three times a week, now it's a monthly treat, enjoyed when it's on the way to something else. And is that any way for an American to live?
WOAH just saw spiderman eating pizza on a roof
oh shit he ate the whole thing . he just like me frfr
spiderman just left the pizza box on the roof but then came back a minute later and clearly felt bad for littering so now hes swinging through downtown holding an empty pizza box
hes hit a street light
he's swinging away now clearly very embarrassed and he thinks nobody saw it. i saw you spiderman
fuck
I haven't even seen the Nolan Odyssey yet but I was tired of the "our age of bronze is collapsing" jokes about four weeks ago
I love handing out amulets to all the junior evil mages and watching them act all corrupted. Staggering around going "ooough I can feel it changing me... what is this dark power?" Idk it's from temu so probably heavy metal poisoning man
âWho is the internet even for anymore?â is such a valid question. Companies are sanitizing the internet and stifling natural human expression in the name of child safety and being family friendly, but the kids such as fuck arenât benefitting from this. The internet is becoming too childish for adults and yet still too adult for kids.
I don't disagree that telling stories is amongst the several functions of tabletop RPGs (though it's certainly not the sole function â or even the principal function â of many games), but I think a lot of analyses of story-in-RPGs trip over the GNS model's error of treating the activities of play as identical with the goals of play.
Like, if the goal if play is to produce a story, then the act of play must be identical with the act of telling a story, right? Except that's not how most stories we actually tell work. How most stories we actually tell work is a bunch of Weird Shit happens, then we make up an explanatory narrative to help us make sense of it.
In the overwhelming majority of conventional tabletop RPGs, the act of play is not identical with telling the story. The act of play is identical with experiencing the Weird Shit. The rules are a Rube Goldberg machine which outputs the materials of which stories are made, and if they're competently structured, all you need to do is turn the crank.
This, more than anything else, is why putting Rule Zero front and centre is going to give you problems in traditional games. If you start with the exact specific story you want to produce and ask how to get the rules to produce it, you're not merely setting yourself at odds with any particular rule; you're trying to run the machine backwards!
