Mario Characters as Batman Villains - Day 23: Il Piantissimo + Black Mask

Finding a suitable character for Black Mask was admittedly challenging. Even though Shy Guy was commonly recommended because they wear masks and thus would be a logical inclusion, I placed a limitation on myself where I do not use generic species as the villain. The basic reason comes down to representing characters as villains, not species. It's in the title, after all. By choosing a generic species like Shy Guy, there is a risk that instead of "so-and-so as a villain", it becomes "villain as a different species".

I searched the Super Mario Wiki for characters that wear masks, and one particular fella caught my eye. Which is the subject of today. Il Piantissimo is a funny guy who wears a Pianta mask, which makes him the numero uno candidate based on my limitations. Thanks to how Piantas were established to be part of a criminal group, it struck me that our funny fella could be a boss commanding the Pianta syndicate.

But that's not enough. A group of Piantas are fine, but I also learned today that Black Mask is the leader of the False Face Society, which are criminals that wear masks. Which strikes me the third time as another stroke of genius, for now it's not just the Pianta syndicate, but Pianta syndicate donning masks, like Goomba Mask, Bullet Bill Mask, and in a roundabout way, I even included the Shy Guy and Snifit masks.

Because blackness is the theme of the drawing, naturally a lot of ink were spilt for this image to convey not just the don Piantissimo, but also the shadowy figures of the Piantas because I want to highlight Il Piantissimo better.

I am pretty proud of the idea, but I think the drawing itself could be improved. All in all, it got me pretty fired up. Have a nice day!

Another set of another obscure Mario character that nobody remember, but I still wanted to draw him, anyway ! Il Piantissimo, or " the Pianta looking guy in Mario Sunshine that pretend to be the fastest only to be beaten by Mario at least 3 times " is... exactly what his second name suggest. And that's pretty all actually ? He seems to be an self assigned "hero" and "competitor "of the Island, but nobody seems to see him that way. He's even considered as a weirdo/freak. Can't blame them, though, his taste in disguise seems... Weird, to say the least... Also, with a name like that, he's probably ( or pretend ) some sort of Italian. But where Mario is the good "Pasta, Mama Mia" guy, Piantissimo is the "very confident in himself, and everyone else around sucks" kind of guy. I think everyone know the trivia that his face is actually directly ripped of the Marathonian in Zelda OoT. So, I give him approximatively the same face, even the pointed ears. Why not ? Even Wario and Waluigi have pointed ears, and nobody know why. Funny thing, but it unintentionally makes a total reverse of Mario's face. ( Round shape/Triangle shape, Big nose/Small pointy nose, Mustache/Beard ect...) Anyway, he's a character I kinda like, even though there's absolutely nothing to say about him.
