SEND A SYMBOL FOR DRAMA!

“I want him out of the cockpit,” is what Jolly said, a little louder than she’d intended, considering she is talking to Dr. Chakwas in the Combat Information Center, instead of the med bay. I need him out of the cockpit, is what Jolly meant to say, but didn’t quite know how to articulate without raising even more questions about the nature of the relationship between her and the pilot.
The last few months have been rough on everyone, but the Normandy crew, in particular, seems to be taking blow after blow, while having to carry the entire galaxy’s fate on their shoulders. Joker is, of course, no exception from this. Jolly was the one to deliver the news about his sister, and since then, they’ve had no spare moment to breathe and slow down. Unlike most of his co-workers, Joker is practically glued to his post and impossible to persuade to take a day off and fully process what is happening, hence why Jolly had to resort to issuing official orders left and right.
“He’s in no state to be at the helm right now,” she adds, a stern frown emphasizing her words. “Do whatever you have to do.”
In truth, it pains the Commander to say this. To act like her worry lies with Joker’s skills and ability to focus on their missions after receiving such devastating personal news. When the reality is that she worries this is affecting Joker more than he wants to let on and forcing himself to work is a poorly-adjusted coping mechanism. She’s seen it before plenty of times, in herself and other soldiers-- it comes with this line of work, after all-- but she’s hardly ever seen positive results.
She doesn’t want to lose Joker; selfishly first, for the good of the crew second. And if this means forcing him out of the bridge... so be it.
