Apocalypse

Emaline Deveraux had seen some shit. She had seen mangled bodies and people dying from starvation in the streets because of wartime famine. But Emmie knew when to stay the hell out of it. Never had the urge to stay the hell out of it been as strong as it was when the news of the outbreak had broke.
Right when things were starting to get sour, Emmie packed up her most prized possessions. The books of the craft passed down in her family, some sentimental stuff and a few other things, got in her car and left to what had before been her private getaway. An old house, nestled in the woods where she could go to get far away from the modern world. Here she could live life how she remembered it. Or at least the way that it had been before the world became full of noise and screens.
She grew vegetables and fruit, collected rain water when she could, but if not there was a fresh stream nearby. What she couldn’t eat right away she canned and stored in a cellar. The house seemed the perfect place. Now it was the only place.
The outbreak had been going on for a while now and she wondered if anyone was left. Rarely did she venture out, but when she did, she was armed. She went out into the woods, bow and arrow in her hand, rifle strapped to her back. Before dusk, she returned with two rabbits. But something felt off. when she brought the rifle forward and looked carefully around her property.
That was when she saw him. A man outside her house.
