Idea One: An a-z or a collection of mythical beasts and creatures. These could be presented in a zine, a book a pack of cards. This is something in which I dont really tend to draw so it would be interesting and challenging to try and imagine and illustrate the described beasts. I have found a website with a range of mythical beasts each with detailed descriptions, they dont include pictures which I think is a good thing because if I came to create them I have no reference to go by. Also I am free to interpret the creatures however I like so I could make them scary/friendly/humanlike. Things I would need for this project are a collection of different animals/components to draw reference from, zine making material, pens/pencils etc. If I were to do the a-z zine, I would need quite a lot of drawing time and effort as drawing 26 beasts may prove to be a challenge.
Idea Two: Another idea is to create different characters for a calendar, this would consist of 12 illustrations co-ordinating with each month occasion/event/weather. This is something I enjoy doing (creating different characters) although the 12 illustrations have to be developed well enough to look good on a calendar. I like the idea of making the characters fit around a theme. Basing them on a calendar would be quite repetetive and the idea of creating characters is something I always do. It would be nice, if I chose this idea, to actually make and professionally print the calendar out or make into a little diary.
Idea Three: Ideal landscapes, illustrate a collection of ideal (made up or real) places. I quite like the idea of this as the only limit is your imagination, there is a number of pathways to choose, whether you want to do them fantasy like, realistic, scary places, indoors, outdoors etc. I dont see where this idea could end up and how I would represent these and why, maybe placed in frames, painted on wood blocks. Some factors to consider choosing this idea is the skills I have, I am not very experienced in perspective and drawing landscapes/city scapes, so I think this would be very challenging.
Idea Four: Create a zine on different people we see every day "People you've probably seen", "People you avoid". I like this idea as drawing people in public is something I have been wanting to do, however I will be reliant on finding interesting people to sketch. I could make up the different characters and draw certain people we all know so as nose pickers, tramps, nosey people, slow walkers, angry people etc. I would have to find a consistent style to use throughout whether it be realistic or cartoon, I would need to gather references on everyday people (primary and secondary reasearch). A good thing about this idea is that it wouldnt take as much time as the others as I could create a short zine with 8-12 illustrations inside. I could also further push my life drawing skills or try out a new drawing style.
Idea Five: Create a pack of zodiac cards with different starsign illustrations or characters. This is a project that I am interested in, I like the idea of blending both my first idea (mythical beasts) and my fourth idea (creating characters) into one, as the starsigns are based around different creatures. The idea of creating different cards is something new and interests me as you have to think about the patterns and colour around the main illustration, and also the back of the card too. I would have to think about what text I am going to include about what and where. I think finding a certain style to do these cards in would be interesting too, there are many different areas I could go, like making them look traditional and old, or new and modern, digital/traditional, black and white/colour. If I was to create these cards I would have to think about why people would want them, would they come as a pack or indiviudally bought for gifts or for themselves. Would they be credit card size to fit in the purse/wallet. Creating 12 cards may be time consuming, also printing double sided could also be hard to do.
