I haven't had time to look thoroughly at the world building yet but I want to ask question so. Hmmmmm. Are there any formal balls/dances in Laran Hall? Do they wear pretty dresses? What about in other areas of Luterma? I need the deal on the pretty dresses Heidi I like pretty dresses.
Not as much in Laran Hall. A few things tend to be formal -- there’s several big Day of the Citadel formal events throughout that week, one of which is held in the castle; weddings run formal, as do pretty much anything celebrating major power changes in the Laran family, like the Heir’s and the Baron/ess’ coronations and the Heir’s/Baron/ess’ weddings. And yes, that does mandate pretty dresses, lol. They tend to be a mishmash of Borderland and Luterman stylistic choices (since a good number of Borderlanders will buy Luterman dresses and either alter them themselves or pay a Borderland tailor to do so for them), usually ending up with wide sleeves; large but unsupported skirts; and wide, typically square collars that occasionally dip onto the arms instead of resting on the shoulders, usually with a deep V on the overdress with a cloth insert of a different color underneath. The V is usually laced visually into place or, or more serious formal events, held by strips of jewelry and lashed to the insert. It’s rather practical in application, because a single overdress can easily be changed up by switching out the lacing and insert, making it less to make, own, and store.
The rest of Luterma? Oh yeah. Between week-long celebrations for the Day of the Citadel and Wall Day, and the things that happen when most of the court is around Morvan during the winter, there are plenty of formal events at least for the upper echelons of society. Formal wear for Luterma, depending on the time, place, and SES level of the person in question, typically is with a cotehardie style - your “traditional” medieval dress. For high formal and court affairs dresses tend to be heavily layered, with variations on design to show underdresses, the use of surcoates or jackets, etc (considering the cotehardie is the basic Luterman dress anyway, at least for the upper classes).
In regards to Luterma, fashion runs from the 1300s to the mid-1400s, just on the cusp of the Renaissance, with some older styles in the countryside and, of course, no strict guidelines on separation of clothing by sex or gender.
But yes, pretty dresses for everyone (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
