Move, damn it! Blue shouted, and Four tugged uselessly at his foot. His ankle groaned, but he was stuck.
What’s wrong, why can’t we move? Red sounded on the verge of tears.
Four barely avoided the downward strike that followed, nearly falling over in his attempt to dodge. He threw caution to the wind and bent down, frantically untying his laces in a last ditch effort. The Moblin’s sword left the earth beside him with a heavy tug and Four got the knot undone. The beast gurgled over him and he tugged open his laces. The sound of sliced air descended, and Four rolled out of the way, his foot free from his boot. The sword pierced the ground where he’d just been as he scrambled to his feet and away, adrenaline singing in his veins and breath coming in gasps as he backed up--
His back bumped into something warm and a familiar blade rested upon his neck. Four’s breath caught in his chest, his limbs locked, and a soft chuckle tickled his ear as an arm circled his chest.
“It’s been a long time, Link.” a familiar voice, dripping with false affection that made his heart clench in emotion that wasn’t quite his own. “Did you miss me?”
Shadow? Vio whispered in the hush that had fallen in his mind, and Four tensed as the dark blade pressed further into his skin, silencing any reply.
“Oh that’s right, of course you wouldn’t miss me.” Shadow hummed, hand sliding up Four’s chest until it landed on the feather earring, playing with it idly. “I’m just a shadow, after all. We never really were friends, were we?”
