sweaters and snow

for a autumn morning, it really is cold where nico lives.
late october― that means no snow, right? the clouds are dark and ominous and cold. As someone who seems so cold and dark himself, nico despises the chills he constantly feels when the harsh wind hits his face. and the snow. gods, the snow. its absolutely terrible having to walk through it.
he trudges down the tiled staircase of the train station, snow tracking on the floors.
and of course, without fail, he appears into view.
nico thinks his name is will. he goes to a school different than his. further away from his. hence the uniform.
will has his earbuds in, listening to some song. there’s a small smile on his face, bright blue eyes glued to the screen. he’s not paying attention to anything else― making nico think he hasn’t been caught staring― but then he’s looking up, and waving.
nico waves back with a blush.
some days, which are most days, will has his earbuds on. when there’s bad weather, he sticks to wearing a hat over them. today he has a yellow cotton hat on, the colour matching his sandy hair.
will likes to sit in the train car third to the left. beside the window always, except when he gives up his seat for that forgetful grandma that forgets when the train arrives on crowded days. its really nice actually. nico would beat him to the chase- except he’s pretty sure he gives a bad aura because one day he saw a kid cry at the sight of him.
for some reason, will brings two sweaters every day. they look soft. fluffy. he thinks that will hand made them.
“morning!” will would greet happily. a usual exchange between the two, and nico would greet him back.
nico acts like he doesn’t see him. he tries not to greet him back, because he’s pretty sure will only sees him as the aquaintance that rides the same train as him. does he know of the small teeny tiny crush that doesn’t even matter because he’s totally not into him? or is it just one sided?
definitely the second choice.
its funny though— will thinks its the complete opposite.
he leaves his house at seven fifty on the dot, a whole thirty minutes before nico gets there just so he can see get there earlier.
will notices that nico always looks a little tired. a little cold, a little starved, a little glum. he takes pride in packing his bag carefully every day, making sure to leave space, because sometimes nico’s hands are full when he forgets his bag on some days.
will makes sure to bring two of a lot of things; like two hand-knitted sweaters in case nico would get cold on windy days. the blonde would always click his tounge at the sight of nico shivering slightly, even in the least. he would surely get a cold if the boy usually forgot an extra layer.
he makes it a point to sit on the third car to the left for a few reasons.
one: because he hopes nico would walk past him, maybe even sit nearby, even exchange a few words. and when he does, will thinks his heart may have stopped.
nico thinks so, too.
two: so that will can see him, and smile to himself quietly.
will likes to walk in after nico, so that in any occasion, he could be there to steady him and keep him from falling if the train moved too fast.
ugh. that’s kinda creepy. and desperate? now will’s starting to sound like- like some sort of weirdo. bleh.
despite that, he looks forward to warm days. says when the sun is shining, mornings are dewy and cool, and sky is clear with fluffy clouds.
during those warm, happy days, nico resorts to wearing a simple light outfit instead of his usual aviator jacket that has sleeves much too big and threads poking out at the seams. without his hands in his pockets and eyes not glued to the ground (but rather a little more upwards) nico looks confident and suave.
gods, will’s crushing over some guy like a lovesick puppy.
and, fuck, nico’s fallen for him just as much.
