✨Scenario✨
You and Mat had a fight before he went on a week and a half long road trip. Since he really hurt your feelings during the fight you decided to let you both cool down and give him some space. That meant no good morning and night texts, no good luck texts before a game, texts regarding the outcome of the game and especially no facetime calls to fall asleep. Mat blamed himself for the fight and felt more and more guilty each day. And it showed on the ice. He played rougher, taking the anger out on opposite players. He took more penalties than normal and didn't score as often as he normally did. It went so far that he got scolded by both Anders and Barry to get his head back on. The interview after that you could almost see that he just wanted to get home to you and make up. For both of yours sake.

He would be all worried because you’re not updating your social medias and he goes as far as sending a message to your bff just to make sure you’re taking care.
He misses your texts dearly, specially the ones you would send after a game (either him winning or losing, you would always remind him how proud of him you are)
Anyway skipping to the getting home part
He got home the following week during the evening and you were out helping a friend through a rough time, but since you two are not talking he thought you left and wouldn’t want anything to do with him anymore
When you get back home (an hour and a half later) he’s napping in the couch and wake up instantly when you close the door.
“Oh thank god I thought you’ve left me! I’m so sorry y/n. It’s all my fault. I’m so so sorry” and you can see the sleep, the sadness and the tears in his eyes. There are tears strains on his cheek too and he looks so lost you just wanted to hold him forever.
“No, mat, it was a fight, both of us were wrong, and I’m equally sorry” you reassured him before walking to the couch and bringing his body to yours. He tells you about the roadie and how he missed you and your texts while laying on your chest with you threading your fingers through his hair.
He falls asleep not even thirty minutes in and you sigh relieved to finally making up, letting sleep wash over you as well.
