Strykore declawed Dark Spyro after the dragon lashed out and scratched him on the side of the face following a heated argument about Dark Spyro’s failure to turn Stealth Elf evil.

The dark sorcerer had done it to both of Dark Spyro’s front paws to ensure the dragon wouldn’t be able to retaliate against him physically after he had already placed a cap on the dragon’s magic to prevent him from retaliating against him that way, either. While Strykore could have absolutely done it relatively painlessly and efficiently via the use of his incredible magic capability, he wanted to ensure it would be used as a “lesson” that Dark Spyro wouldn’t forget and so he did it entirely with a knife & scalpel without the use of any numbing agents whatsoever.

This horrifying procedure left Dark Spyro practically unable to walk on all fours for months without incredible struggle, but Strykore hadn’t cared and forced him to do so anyways. Much of the time, the pain would be so unbearable that Dark Spyro would attempt to either walk on his hind legs (which he couldn’t do for a prolonged period as he isn’t bipedal and it can ((and did)) injure his spine) or stay in flight for as long as possible. While Strykore did close up the initial wounds to prevent them from bleeding uncontrollably, they were incredibly easy to reopen and infection was basically Dark Spyro’s daily existence. The only thing keeping him functioning was his magic, which he could rely on (mostly) to keep him going.
