uhhh,, lil bit of a rant here. not a ton of substance just irritation and anger

i saw a post that really irked me, just another to the tune of “nora and aftg is problematic actually” in whatever new meme format and it’s just,,, i know. we know. we all know.

it’s not a new revelation. we genuinely have all heard by now about nora’s failures as a writer and i promise, I PROMISE YOU, we are not ignoring it

but just,, what do you want anyone to do about this?

the series finished SEVEN YEARS AGO. my copy of The King’s Men is copyrighted to 2014. i swear to you that someone has written about the issue before. the reason you don’t see it being brought up that much is because we have been saying the exact same thing over and over and over and over for - again - the better part of a decade

and i’m not saying never bring up the problems with the series again, i’m saying that one-line posts and memes in the same glibly condescending tone about the same handful of Problematique elements are tiring and pointless when they’ve been critiqued and analyzed a hundred times before by people who actually approach the issue with nuance and care and good-faith

if you have something meaningful to say about the actual content of the books, SAY IT. if you think something important isn’t being addressed, then write the damn meta and address it yourself

don’t just say “nora and aftg are racist actually because of nicky/the moriyamas” or any other one-note tune and just leave it at that like you’ve smugly discovered something new that no one was aware of before

WE ARE ALL AWARE

and we’ve accepted that as a flaw in something we love, and we’ve moved on

if you want to ACTUALLY talk about race, or ableism, or abuse, or any topic in aftg then TALK ABOUT IT

i do. me and my friends in this fandom have all written tons of critical analyses on race and ableism and mental illness and abuse in aftg, though we’ve primarily moved onto analyzing the fandom because the fandom is still alive while the books are static!

they’re done!

nora’s not here anymore!

nothing you can say or do will change the text that was written and we all know what it says!

there are still things to say about these books but the same! 5! points! word! for! word! is! not! clever! or! helpful!

although i personally dont experience initial attraction to ppl i think it is important to know that it's ALRIGHT to like someone based off their looks before you meet them i mean isn't it important to be physically attracted to someone as well as be attracted to their personality??
