ngl this reading made me cry
(Maybe...)
RYOU: Their opponent is just Jounouchi-kun though...
RYOU: Jounouchi-kun, you're so weak~~~~
BAKURA: My condolences! Father-killer!
(we're not...)
RYOU: It's an Occult deck!
BAKURA: This is my Undead Lockdown deck...
(so different...)
BAKURA: In exchange for saving that bald guy...!
RYOU: Dumb fatty!
BAKURA: Long time no see, Baldy.
(after all...)
BAKURA: It'll be easy for a thief like me!!
RYOU: Anyway, that was mean... Why was Yugi-kun hiding the Millennium Ring from me?
BAKURA: But I will say, my Host's penchant for thievery on the Battle Ship did throw me off*.
THIEF KING BAKURA: I'm... the King of Thieves... There's nothing... in this world... I can't steal...!!
(you and I.)
The Bakuras have a lot more in common than we give them credit for. Their most overt ones are their respective experiences with familial death (they both have the "trauma wall" scene, even) and proclivities for grotesque-themed anti-meta decks.
A bit more under the radar is their "thieving" background. Less so for Ryou, of course, since it was One Time, but it's really interesting to me that Bakura comments on it like he wasn't expecting it. 困る* can mean a few things depending on context. It can mean embarrassed, troubled, stumped, floored, annoyed, upset. Bakura prefacing it with "The Millennium Ring originally belongs to me" sets the tone of his words/what he's conveying. To my understanding, "the Ring is mine, but I am surprised my Host stole it back" or "I can't believe he did that, how embarrassing". As in, Bakura had no influence over Ryou's actions. Didn't require it. Ryou did that all on his own. Perhaps the Bearer/Item affinity at work. See posts:
① "One must be faithful to the Ring's will."
I was rewatching DSOD, and a few scenes stood out to me now that I've refreshed a bit by doing a reread of the manga in JP. Was Father Baku

Goodness! This exchange is everything. Takes place when these two lose against your team in the new Tag Duel Tournament (2024). The actual e
③ The Bearers are mad lads for their Items aka Ryou stealing the Ring back is the "Bakuras" version of Yugi putting the Puzzle together in that burning building
hey. so what were ryous thoughts while witnessing all of That? what was going through ryous head seeing yugi choose to literally sit inside
Now, the Bakuras' most obscure similarity is that they have quite the mouth/sharp tongue on them, termed 口が悪い in JP. Ryou's definitely not on the same level of rudeness as Bakura, but he does have his moments! His most prominent one is his scathing thought against Bobasa, "Dumb fatty!" Otherwise, he's prone to offhand comments and egging people on. Some snark and heckling from him isn't out of place.
this is twice now that ryous words get jounouchi very heated when it comes to seto. RYOU: That's right! Jounouchi-kun has a younger sister,
And as I said before, he's not that polite either. See this post about Ryou's speech.
whenever ryou is described as "polite", I always thought, in terms of jp, that that meant he uses polite speech (aka keigo) regardless of wh
The unprovoked name-calling the Bakuras are keen on doing is my favorite and amuses me to no end! I keep coming back to that one theory I read before that there is no "Bakura", just a corrupted Ryou, with the Ring bringing out the absolute worst in him 🤭
Hello tumblr I keep forgetting to post here you’ll be shocked to see I’m still drawing jayvik I know wow surprise
Can’t stop thinking about how during the duel between Stede and Izzy, Blackbeard turned away because he didn’t want to watch Stede be killed, but then when it came time for Stede’s execution, he put himself directly between Stede and the firing squad trying to save his life
george just went from "idk i wanna visit america i guess" to "i would not leave america unless it was an actual emergency" in like 2 seconds he forward-pedaled

thinking about the attention to detail in the set of the apartment. look at the little fake kickpuncher blurays.
zuko’s love language would directly correlate to how iroh treats him. i don’t have the meta knowledge to explain what that IS but i know its true. iroh taught zuko everything he knows about what real love is
