might make a gifset of different characters magic and stuff and make a headcaon post about cora’s. iit’s still majorly in the work, but dc is a perfect verse for coraline to explore her magical abilities in the fullest. 

in the main verse, she doesn’t like to acknowledge her magic whatsoever because it freaks her out. being connected to crimson and the creator is something she rejects, because by rejecting she’s maintaining some level of control. it’s not until future timelines does she embrace it, i’m not speaking when she gets the companies, either. i’m speaking when everyone she knows and loves is dead and gone and she’s roaming the earth like some sort of zombie, stuck at 21 but being far older than that. not being able to die makes living boring and predictable, and accepting the connection that she has is done out of self hatred and boredom. it opens a gateway, but for the most part it’s ignored until all of her friends fickle out. 

but for her to explore it early on is not something done in any of them, because it doesn’t feel right - the odd spells here and there, yes - but they’re done in the traditional sense and even then it’s half arsed and not using full potential. but she is capable of instant magic and hurting people with it ( healing ? not sure yet. ) and in dc there is so much chaos going on, i can imagine coraline embracing the connection between the gods as a way to protect herself. with darkseid and the existence of apokolips and their villains, the daughter of fear, chaos and destruction has to have the upper hand in those scenarios, especially as they’d probably sense an ancient old darkness in her that not even they could match. 

she’d be pretty overpowered, so what canon would have if she were a real character and what i’d write is different. but i really wanna stay true to the purgatory concept : death is IT,  creation is creator,  and purgatory is coraline, they balance each other out, the perfect tightrope,  a fucked up nuclear family that is created by the natural order. 

and honestly... the thought of coraline going to toe goddamn toe with crimson in an epic battle ? oh oh oh ... c’mon, you can’t tell me that isn’t the fucking best, she couldn’t kill them, but she could put them in a long time out... and if that moment happened, crimson would come back pissed of and so goddamn proud - finally,  showing what she is.
