Now we’re called to take up that cross – to intentionally, w/faith in what has already been accomplished by Jesus, do something about the madness that is happening just over the state border…in our own spaces, in our hearts. You are the very #ImageAndLikeness of God. And so is the Kenosha police chief. And so is Jacob Blake…. and his precious children. Taking up your cross and following Jesus is an intentional thing, it is doing the hard thing, in faith (what you say you believe) outdoing yourself in honor toward those who bug you... Live in harmony, don’t judge, make peace where there is none…Deny the things that divide you. that insulate yourself from those who hurt. that prevent you from seeing inequality, injustice. The gifts and call of God are irrevocable. Paul is telling the Roman church, “For just as you were once disobedient”—that is, did not keep your focus on the Source of the image you bear—but received the mercy of clear vision, and now you see who you really are; So those with whom God covenanted and shown God’s Self, the Source of their being—So these who have turned away from the mirror and sought other ways to find identity and meaning… just as God showed you that mercy and you believed, your vision coming into focus in your unique, Divine spark – This mercy is so that those who first believed and have looked away – it is so *they* will know mercy. That they will see your faith, open their eyes to the Divine image in you – and believe. Because the interesting thing is, when God looks into the mirror to see God’s own image and likeness, God sees me—God looks like me. And, God looks like Clark and God looks like Betty and Joe and Bradley and …. The gifts and the call are irrevocable. They are irrevocable because they are part of our being, our identity, our uniquely created selves. The gifts and the calling of God are available to all, because every human that ever was and ever will be came into being by God, through Jesus, sustained by the Holy Spirit. Every human that ever was and ever will be is made in the image and likeness of God. The Canaanite woman was sure enough of it, had a sense in her bones, she and her daughter, manifest the Divine. The door shut on her, knew there are times to push that door back open and insist. This woman pushed on that door, held it open. And Jesus says, Woman, great is your faith! It will be done as you asked – in full, abundant, healing complete – because you bear the image and likeness of God, and that cannot be taken away by anyone! Absolutely irrevocable.
