Children of Strife thoughts, specifically about Alis
So okay, clearly this is an Alice in Wonderland tale, but I think that what REALLY struck me was how she took the setting of Children of Memory, and then jacked the AI psychosis up to 50. What if you were in a precursor-designed reality engine so sophisticated, it sensed your intentions to get to the heart of its own creation, and fabricated entire alternate histories for you to learn about? None of it's real, of course, but does that matter to you in the moment? Isn't it tempting to just abandon the Objectiverse and settle into the fiction, where threads of meaning are as clear and coherent as you let them be? Deeply unsettling work.
