One day in my young adult life, I considered more carefully and realized I was more informed on #European & North #American history than I was on Cameroonian & African history. Why? I had no one else to blame but myself. In the age of the Internet and access to so many libraries and bookstores, It was now my choice. As an adult, I am responsible for my own further education. I am proud of my African heritage, and remembered what history I was taught until I left #Cameroon as a tween, but now, I have no excuse to not inform myself further - on my own tribe, the broader country and then ones all around it. If I want a leg to stand on when I'm telling people who ask me about 'Africa' that it is a continent with 54 plus countries (depending on whom you ask), then I need to know that. I can't side eye people who ask me if I lived in a tree growing up, but then choke when I'm asked about Cameroon's infrastructure or if I know anything more about apartheid in #southafrica #Africa. I can't be justified in #shading someone who asks me if my Father hunted my meals with a spear, when I can't turn around and give a cohesive explanation of the effects of #colonization on the continent that are STILL affecting countries negatively to this day. All I'm saying is - I would be more equipped for effective clap backs if I took the time to learn what #TF was actually going on. Just kidding. Not just for the clap backs. Those too, but more for the expansion of my own mind. Switching it up y'all. We're going to the Westernmost Central #African country to learn a bit more about my country of birth.
