Immigraniada Pop-Culture Spell

A spell for immigrants to feel welcome in their new home

Supplies

A map of your homeland

A map of where you live now

A white candle

*Soil

*A pot

**Lavender plant start

Gather your items and place a small amount of soil in the bottom of the pot. Light candle and use to burn map of your homeland then burn map of your new home. Place ashes in pot, add a bit more soil and stir deosil. Place start on pot. Do this all while chanting Immigrada Immigraniada and imagining everyone in your town being friendly and welcoming to you and your culture. Place plant near entrance of your home

*if you don’t have your own yard, use pot

**If you don’t think you can maintain a plant, bury ashes in area near or on your property

If you’ve lived many countries, you can modify it to suit your needs

Gogol bordello's song immigraniada has the lyric "it's more than true, it actually happened" but I'm not quite sure what that means, because obviously it being true means it actually happens, so how is it "more than true"?

If we are here not to do what you and I wanna do and go forever crazy with it, why the hell we are even here?

I’m currently really into Gogol Bordello. Initially got into them as our team skates out to ‘Start Wearing Purple’. They’re an American Gypsy punk band whose frontman is a Ukrainian refugee with Servitka Roma ancestry, and they are AWESOME. ‘Forces of Victory’ is my current Depression Song (”I can’t go on, I will go on”). ‘Pala Tute’ is about learning the guitar in order to impress girls, truly a global experience that pulls us together across walls and borders. I can no longer go to a wedding without wondering, “Where is the vodka? Where is marinated herring?” even though I don’t like either of those things.  But my absolute favourite in these fuck-awful times is ‘Immigraniada (We Comin’ Rougher)’. The video is just wonderful.
