Jason Hickel: Why a Liberated Palestine Threatens Global Capitalism w/ an excerpt below
"A struggle for the economic liberation of the South is fundamentally antithetical to the capitalist world economy. Because accumulation in the [imperial] core depends utterly on the cheapening of labour and resources in the global South. […] So any attempt by liberation struggles in the periphery to achieve economic independence - to use their own resources for their own development, for their own ecological transitions, for their own human needs - is destabilizing for capital in the core, and capital reacts with the most extraordinary violent backlashes. […] The situation in Palestine, we have to understand, is not primarily a moral one. That's how we think of it. That is not how capital thinks of it. For them it is a matter of suppressing and crushing liberation movements. Because a liberated Palestine means a liberated Middle East. A liberated Middle East means capitalism in the core really faces a crisis, and they will not let that happen. And they're unleashing the full violence of their extraordinary power to ensure it doesn't."
"The discovery of gold and silver in America, the extirpation, enslavement, and entombment in mines of the indigenous population of that continent, the beginnings of the conquest and plunder of India, and the conversion of Africa into a preserve for the commercial hunting of blackskins, are all things which characterize the dawn of the era of capitalist production. These idyllic proceedings are the chief moments of primitive accumulation."

"I am Youssef, an 18-year-old young man, and my dreams and hopes vanished in an instant.
My family’s house in Khan Yunis was destroyed, and I found myself and my family living in a displacement camp in Deir al-Balah, under the scorching sun, inside a tent swaying in the wind.
I wake up every morning to the sounds of waves crashing on the shore, but they no longer mean anything to me—they only remind me of the freedom we lost and the life we once had."
Every day is a new battle for him and his family. He works long hours, searching in the corners of the camp for any opportunity that allows him to earn some money.
Fatigue grips him, but he can't afford to give up. His father is sick, trapped in his pain, and his eyes plead for help.
There are moments where he feels his heart shatter when he sees his gaze; he endures his suffering in silence, but he knows he is hurting.
As for his little brother, despite his innocence, he is fighting hepatitis due to contaminated food that they are forced to eat.
Some days pass without him having a meal, just so he can buy the medicine his father and brother need.
When youssef puts food in his mouth, his memory conjures the image of his mother preparing meals for them laughing joyfully.
"I miss her voice, which once filled our home with love, and I wish I could be by her side now.
I feel as though the world has left me, and no one cares. In our small tent, we are in both physical and emotional siege.
Every night, I stretch my hands to the sky, asking God to grant me the strength to overcome this nightmare.
I try to smile for my brother, but he sees the sadness in my eyes.
I tell myself that I will be strong for them.
Despite all this pain, I promise them that one day will come when we will rebuild our dreams anew.
But I know the road will be long and arduous, and I am here, fighting for tomorrow, for my father and brother, searching for a hope that has yet to extingui in our souls."

The palestinians in Gaza have been deprived of food and a normal life for too long.
It not that i don't think vets and the currently enlisted don't have a place on the left but their place is not as victims but as perpetrators who are in the process of rehabilitation.
Quick question. What's the difference and similarity between Colonialism and Imperialism?? Uhh a friend asked..
Colonialism is the act of a powerful nation taking over another also powerful country and using that country for their own benefit. For example, the eastern part of North America was colonized by England, central America was colonized by Spain, and Siberia was colonized by Russia.
Imperialism is quite similar, but it is a powerful country taking over weaker nation instead and using them for their resources. Think of it like the British when they took control over the Colonists in the 13 colonies, they taxed them for money on paper, ink, sugar, and most popular of all, tea!
Hope this helps! :)
