Imperative sentences are use for giving orders or advice, giving instructions or suggestions, and making requests. Imperative sentences can be written in affirmative, interrogative or negative forms. Positive imperative sentences are written using affirmative verbs. It is interesting to note: the positive imperative sentences are simplest and more commonly used compared to the other two forms.

Google autofill reveals existing sexism

Prevalent sexism and discrimination still exists in society today, as illustrated by the UN Women ad campaigns. Using Google autofill, a feature that suggests what your search term might be based on its most frequent searches, they typed in the imperative phrases "women should", "women shouldn't", or "women can't" (modal verbs) into Google. The horrifying results included "women shouldn’t have rights; women shouldn’t vote; women shouldn’t work; women need to shut up; women shouldn't go to college; women should not speak in church" and so on. 

"For anyone who thought the Internet was a more enlightened place than the world at large, or that sexism was less of a problem in the 21st century, the ads are quite the wake up call." Journalist Chris Taylor for Mashable 

The results for men however, are less stereotypical with results such as "men should pray", reflecting the contrasting views in societies today towards men and women.
