From my D&D character's 2025/2026 journal: her most favorite items she's owned.

Bag of Holding, works normally, just with purple Strahd face. She carries it with pride, and shows it off, like it's a Loungefly or something.

Broom of Flying. Owned it in exactly one cycle/lifetime, has longed for it ever since.

Alchemy Jug. She's a chef, and unlimited mayonnaise comes in handy more often than you know.

Ring of Stored Spells. That one cycle where she got into a political marriage with Strahd von Zarovich, and he offered her so many rings to choose from, and that's the one she picked. It was promptly filled with sending spells so she could yell her disappointment in his choices no matter where she was.

Ring of Protection. For a wedding that never got to happen, but meant a lot to her because it was supposed to be with the man she truly loves.

Viol (it's really fiddle, but sometimes DMs say I can't have a fiddle idk).

Perfume bottle, so she can say she has a "signature scent" like the it-girl she is.

Matt's Important Item: Harmonica

No surprise here but this is what inspired me to actually write these. Well, this and Tai's telescope.

Matt brings a harmonica. Unlike most of the others, who brought an item they thought they would need for camp, Matt likely always has his harmonica on him, at least until he moves on to a bass guitar.

When the others are sharing what they brought, Matt simply says he doesn't have any food. We don't see him with his harmonica until the next episode, when he runs off after Tai accidentally says something insensitive, to play the harmonica away from the others.

Matt's harmonica is a Blues Harp in the key of D. Most beginners start with a harmonica in C. As we see him playing this same harmonica in TK's flashback at Primary Village, we can assume Matt just always played on a D harmonica.

The harmonica is an iconic part of American blues music. It can also be played alone, and thematically it's used to express loneliness and solitude. A character playing the harmonica by themselves is almost always seen as melancholy.

Matt has this item purely for his own satisfaction; any time he's feeling too much, he plays the harmonica to cope. Or he'll just play it when he's bored, a good way to keep others from striking up conversation. In any case, while he might have originally brought it with him to camp to keep himself occupied without having to socialize, eventually he starts playing it for the benefit of others. At least once he plays it while the kids are fishing, filling the silence. I imagine that having music to listen to would calm some frazzled nerves.

For the most part, though, Matt's harmonica is linked to the side of himself he doesn't often show. Joe gives it back to him after the Dark Cave incident; we can assume that Matt ditched it due to his depression. When he gets it back, it's like he's whole again.

It's pretty significant that, when Matt and Gabumon are saying goodbye at the end of the season, they don't say much to each other. Instead, after sitting in silence for awhile, Matt plays the harmonica for Gabumon. Matt can put all his feelings into the songs he plays, especially when talking about those feelings is hard for him.

Tai's Important Item: Mini Telescope

Tai's item is a mini telescope. It's small enough to fit in his pocket and has a pretty decent range. Tai likely brought this with him because he was going camping, and it isn't something he has on him every day.

This tells me that he was excited about going on some adventure while at camp. The first time we see him use it, he's up in a tree, getting the lay of the land after finding himself in the Digital World.

To me, this item speaks to Tai always looking forward. In fact, it kind of shows us how he looks too far forward, losing sight of where he is in the moment because he's so focused on where he's going. It's like when you're playing Breath of the Wild and you're using the scope to keep your eye on something in the distance and you walk straight off a cliff or into an enemy. That's Tai.

The telescope is incredibly useful, as Tai busts it out many times in the season. He catches sight of Kuwagamon with it, as well as many other approaching enemies. He also uses it to spot the Yokomon village where the group goes to get out of the desert. With this in mind, Tai uses this telescope not just to satisfy his need to see further out into where the group is exploring, or to size up an enemy, but also to benefit the entire group.

As Tai is the leader, it makes sense that he has something like this. It's an interesting little object that a kid wouldn't normally have on them, and Tai probably brought it to camp to seek out adventure. I think Tai is the type to feel a little confined by societal rules, especially in Japanese society where it's very important to be polite. He doesn't want to sit in one place, not without good reason; he wants to keep pressing on. At first, it's to explore and see what else the Digital World has to offer. Later, it's because he has fully embraced the role of leader after basically being voted to the role in Myotismon's castle. He sees it as his job to keep the group moving forward toward the goal of defeating the evil Digimon threatening the balance.

Izzy's Important Item: Laptop

Izzy brought a few things with him, but he only really uses the laptop. The other two things are a cellphone and a digital camera; we don't even see the digital camera if I recall correctly.

Regardless, Izzy's laptop helps in numerous ways. Izzy uses it to hack Tentomon's code and get him to the Champion level, he has the Digimon Analyzer that gives critical information on Digimon they encounter, and he uses it to contact Gennai. There is no way these kids would've made it without Izzy and his laptop.

That said, it is a bit out of the ordinary that Izzy brought a laptop to summer camp. He clearly likes working on it, but when he does he gets so focused that everything else just falls away. Summer camp is meant to be a social event, especially considering this one is a school camping trip.

However, unlike Matt, who brought his harmonica to illustrate that he isn't eager to socialize, Izzy doesn't even really realize that when he's on his computer, everyone else becomes essentially background noise.

Izzy doesn't mean to get so wrapped up in his laptop that he forgets the others. When he accidentally ignores Mimi at the temple, he's genuinely surprised to find out she's upset.

To me, Izzy's laptop is similar yet different to Matt's harmonica. He tends to hide behind the computer, relying on it to get him out of nearly every situation. But he doesn't use it to willingly isolate himself.

Sora's Important Item: First Aid Kit

Now, when it comes to these important items, there's two types. Ones that the kid uses fairly often, and ones that get mentioned once and never brought up again. Sora's is one of the latter. This actually kind of reinforces in my mind that the items are more there as a look into how these kids handle new situations and an early demonstration of their personality.

In any case, Sora has a small first aid kit. It has band-aids, some medicine, things like that. If it's anything like the first aid kit you get at camping stores, I imagine it has tweezers (for ticks), alcohol swabs, antibiotic ointment, etc. However, we never actually see her use it.

Regardless, though, Sora brings a first aid kit because she wants to make sure everyone is taken care of. She wants to be prepared for whatever might happen, so bringing a first aid kit to camp is definitely something she would do. I imagine she would be hovering nervously over the youngest kids at camp.

Sora's first aid kit differs from Joe's provisions in the Dark Masters arc; Joe brings those things out of preparedness, out of a need to be useful. Sora brings a first aid kit because she wants to be sure that everyone is taken care of. Joe is prepared for certain circumstances while Sora is a mother hen. She worries about everyone and wants them to be happy and healthy.

It's kind of a bummer that we never get to see her put the kit to use, but she does get to take care of the others in different ways. She cooks eggs for them, she intervenes in arguments, she looks after the younger members of the group.
