The Earl of Rochester’s, "The Imperfect Enjoyment" is probably one of the most excellent things I’ve ever read. This 18th century poem details a man with his lover first dealing with premature ejaculation and then the impotence that follows, and it reads somewhat like a love-hate / break up letter to his penis. And if that description somehow didn’t make it clear, this poem is a lot of fun to read. It includes wonderful euphemisms like “thunderbolt below” and “shrunk up and sapless like a withered flower". Yes, both of those are descriptions of his penis. While the poem is funny to read, it’s worth noting that impotence in the 18th century was a much bigger deal than it is today. Yes, masculine gender expectations today still make it embarrassing, even humiliating, to go to the doctor for a solution, but back in the 18th century, impotence could be seen as a sign of being spiritually sick. At the time, it was thought disfiguration or physical problems stemmed directly from a spiritual unhealthiness. Ugly face, ugly soul. Penis doesn’t work? You must secretly being going to hell. This thinking carried on for a long while which is why many of 19th century gothic works (think Frankenstein, the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) utilized the grotesque monster at the centre of their stories. Regardless of whether the characters were truly monstrous or not, they were treated as though they were by society because of their ugliness.
Deja de tomarle importancia a lo que las personas dicen.

Toxin From World’s Most Venomous Spider Could Treat Impotence
Throughout history, humans have tried to treat erectile dysfunction in a number of weird and wacky ways. Ancient Egyptians, for example, believed that impotence was caused by an evil spell, and that a good way to get rid of the curse was to grind up baby crocodile hearts and rub them on the penis. In medieval times, witches, of course, were blamed, so men would track down the supposed…
