Oda’s foreshadowing for the Joy Boy/Imu yaoi….... My god! These bitches gay! Good for them! Good for them.
The executions of Noland, Roger, and Ace (failed joy boys), along with the possibility that the 20 original kingdoms might’ve executed Joy Boy the same way 800 years ago (Oars trying to help Ace was clearly foreshadowing Emeth and Joy Boy, after all) all point to that theory of Luffy being captured for execution.....
Imu is so real for erasing Joyboy’s name from history so his memory only belongs to him. that’s like the bare minimum of jealousy 🥱
new ship just dropped?? Imulu??? Nikamu??? shuggy predecessors????
imu & joyboy might’ve been friends in the past??? maybe imu was actually happy in joyboy’s dominion at some point?????🤨
but also maybe a little jealous of his power?? or both?? like admiration mixed with resentment??
that panel of them laughing kinda gives me shuggy vibes…..it suggests a time before things fell apart, which raises questions about what caused the shift. Did Joy Boy chose to abandon his role as a king in pursuit of freedom??? Did he leave Imu with all the responsibilities?? which may have led to lingering resentment???
Is imu just bitter because joyboy was more loved or more charismatic as a king?? or maybe he wants to be like him in some way?? There seems to be an element of wanting to measure up to Joy Boy or even replace him in some sense.
idk but the dynamic right now really feels like shuggy, especially with the whole “clown” thing last chapter (even if that’s not what was said in japanese adfgsg)
The resentment does not seem purely political or ideological; it feels VERY personal. His face looks hilarious.
and LUFFY’S reaction 😭😭😭
Basically he got yelled at by his ancient gf and he's like “I have no idea what's going on but I'm in big trouble rn”😭😭
their dynamic is gonna be so unserious 😭 imu holding 800 years of resentment and luffy's just like I don't even know who you are?????? The one sided beef is even worse than shuggy oh my god
also him reminiscing about Joy Boy is what caused him to get hit by Loki...?? oml
So excited for the edgy shonen villain VS Looney Tunes MC one-sided rivalry.
imulu au where luffy ends up in the past and found by joyboy, luffy being luffy he just immediately tells joyboy everything but joyboy doesnt really believe him but is still willing to take luffy under his wing, pretend hes a long lost cousin "-just while the kid tries to get his head on straight lili, dont be like that!-"
luffy ends up coming across imu and immediately wants to beat the shit out of him but even putting aside the fact everyone will immediately turn on him (he doesnt really care), he also has a very fond memory of listening to his crew discuss some of their favourite types of stories, and while time travel wasnt a particular favourite of anyones
("i think namis made herself very clear about how she feels about people trying to change her past" said jimbei with a crooked grin, looking fondly over at their flustered navigator and luffy, currently laying down and enjoying the feeling of robin gently run her fingers through his hair, laughed along with the rest of his crew and soaked in the atmosphere.)
one thing they DID caution was to never try and change the past, or else the future would change along with it. and luffy most certainly cared about not jeopardising his chances of getting home and reuniting with his beloved crew
so instead he takes the high ground and stares very very hard at nerona imu and thinks a lot about punching him in the face
on imus part he is aware of three things:
1) joyboys long lost relative is very fond of sneaking glances at imu when he thinks imu isnt looking,
2) joyboys long lost relative is extraordinarily cute and
3) imu does not mind at ALL if luffy wants to keep looking
cue misunderstandings where imu is trying to get closer to luffy and luffy registering it as a threat and joyboy and his crew watching all of this go down while placing bets and eating popcorn
go for it, nerona imu! (and try not to get yourself killed in the process)
So this was just him sensing Joyboy’s alpha pheromones after 800 years 🥺
this is the very first thing i thought of when i saw this panel ngl
