I’m struggling with a way to articulate this... These newer Star Wars things keep reminding me that Americans* seem to have a very poor idea both of what “resisting the government” actually means and the kinds of things the government can bring to bear against you if it so chooses. Like, with Andor, I kept seeing people saying about how Cassian Andor had to get over his selfishness and learn to sacrifice all for the Rebellion. As if “robbing your national army of its payroll” isn’t significantly more daring than anything anyone of this website would dare to do. As if “not breaking the law” is not something that most people strive for actually.
And with this level in Fallen Order. “The Empire wanted their land, so they forced them into labour camps”, not, “The government decided you can’t live here, but here are this nice new apartments in a completely different area, what are you complaining about? So what if the apartments and the area they’re built in are not all that nice, and that we’re breaking up your community and your culture, and making it more difficult for different races to recognise their shared humanity and find common purpose, we’re the government! You won’t get such a good deal next week!”
