At some point he became distantly aware of some part of his mind snapping.
He also became distantly aware that he could not care in the slightest.
-THIS IS WHERE I’D PUT A READMORE BUT IT’S NOT LETTING ME SCREW YOU TOO SUBMIT-
He loved her. He had realised that. Being a demon he did not think he was capable of such a thing as love, but after many, many months of deep contemplation he came to the conclusion that there really was no other name for his feelings.
He loved her. He loved her. He loved her he loved her he loved her.
And…she was dying. He tried to ignore it at first, then as she faded further and further, began frantically searching for ways to save her, and yet there were none. She was a goddess from a bygone era, still somehow clinging to the world thousands of years after her civilization fell to time. Short of resetting the entire world there was nothing that could be done.
She was so frail now…most days she could not even rise from her bed. She was ready, she had told him, that her time in this world had ended with along with her city, and that if he held any love for her in his heart that he would let her go.
No. She was wrong. He loved her. She was his. She could not leave him. He would not allow it. She was his warm, shining light, and he would save her. He would not allow anything else.
In the end, the idea was so simple he was furious he had not thought of it earlier. The only thing that would save his goddess was resetting the world, wasn’t it? True, such a thing was beyond his power, and even if it wasn’t there would be no place in that world for a demon such as himself, and obviously that would not do. However, he had always had a talent for creating alternate realities…he could make a new world for the two of them. She wouldn’t have to know it wasn’t exactly real…yes, this would work; a world tailor made for the two of them.
Together forever. The thought elated him.
Their world was on a considerably grander scale than any he had created before, and as such it took some time to prepare. He felt awful for leaving her alone for so long, but she simply could not know what he was doing. Deep down she would be ecstatic, he knew, how could she not be? However she would be too proud to accept his aid. Their world was a behemoth, and as such was a fragile thing to maintain. If she ever chose to reject it…
No. That would not happen. They would be so happy together that she would have no reason to reject it. Everything would be perfect. ————————————— Finally, it was done. Today was the day. Today he would save his light from this world, and together they would spend from now until the end of time itself in the one he had created for the two of them. For her. So what if it technically wasn’t real, the world he had created for her was the only one she needed.
He watched her sleep for a time, taking one last opportunity to gaze at her fragile, and yet still sublimely beautiful form. Smiling down at her lovingly he gathered her into his arms. Her eyelids twitched. That was all.
A breath later and they were underground, in the cavern that he had prepared to house and protect their bodies. The world he had created was for their minds only, their bodies were unnecessary. Well, they had to stay alive, hence why they had to be hidden away, but that was all. There was not a single inch of the cave that was not covered by incricate, winding patterns of glyphs, the foundations of their world. At the centre of it all was raised stone platform, upon which he deposited his lover’s body before laying down beside her. Gently grapsing her hand, he pulled the both of them away, and together they fell into their new life as easily as waking from a dream. —————————————
Atop Ur’s iconic ziggurat, two divine lovers danced. Temple musicians had offered their city’s mother music, and in the spur of the moment the goddess had decided to dance with her husband. Their sun-kissed skin shone like bronze in the blazing, brillaint sun, and her ever-faithful subjects below rejoyced in the sight of their beauty. Everything was perfect.
And yet…
She couldn’t put her finger on it, but something was…wrong. When she thought about it she really had no reason to believe that anything was less than perfect, and yet she was still unable to shake the feeling. Ordinarily she would push the thought from her mind and just continue to enjoy herself, but it seemed like she had been doing that her entire life. This really wasn’t something she could ignore any more.
Her husbane noticed the change in the air around her, and while lovingly brushing her hair behind her ear asked what was troubling her, did she not have every reason to be happy?
…She should, yes, but she was not. The world was wrong and she could not work out how.
He looked somewhat concerned at that, tilting his head and waiting for her to continue.
The world just seemed…stagnent. Nothing changed. Ever. Ur had been in its prime for as long as she could remember, and while she knew she should be nothing but happy about that she was aware that it just wasn’t…right. Cities were meant to wax and wane over time, it was just the natural flow of things, and yet her city remained perfect. Too perfect. It was like a sculpture.
No, this wasn’t right. Her city had faded…and she had faded with it.
Her husbands eyes widened in panic, and reality seemed to begin to fall apart. The sun was extinguished, the ground began to shake…
…and his warm body enveloped hers. Her previous thoughts were wiped from her mind, as was her following realisation that they had vanished and the memory of the world desintergrating.
The music below them had slowed to a gentle waltz, and her husband led her in the dance.
Oh, so that was why he had embraced her so suddenly. Strange, she hadn’t noticed the change in the music’s tempo…
More importantly, at least he had finally learned not to be shy with his intimate touches. He had been so shy before, (and still was around her most of the time), it was adorable.
Smiling contently, she melted into him, relishing in the feeling of his lithe muscles against her body, and the pleasurable music around them.
Everything was perfect.
