Since I only started reading Superfish recently, there may be details that have been shared prior to that that I am not aware of. I may also have simply missed something. Everyone is welcome to suggest additions/corrections.
A. The Origin of Superfish as a Comic
Superfish was conceived by pegl0 in 2018 in a dream, following which he immediately noted down the ideas he had to turn it into a complete story; you can find sketches of the characters from as early as 2019, I believe.
In its initial stages, the story was quite different from its current iteration—the characters were different in both appearance and personality, and it involved two different sub-plots taking place in two different time periods. On pegl0’s now defunct Patreon, you can find the following blurb on the premise of Superfish:
After the death of famous author Kim Dae-Jung, Soo-Yin discovers a secret manuscript of her grandfather’s untold life story about witches, hitmen and a rubber duck.
In its current iteration, pegl0 has described Superfish as being a supernatural fantasy work with action, romance, and horror themes. Hence, the comic will feature graphic injuries.
Pegl0 decided to create his previous comic before Superfish to hone his skills; he has stated that it is a very challenging comic to make, and his previous attempts failed as his art needed to evolve.
Pegl0 has conceived Superfish as spanning at least three (and optimistically four) seasons, with likely around 50 episodes each.
B. The Pieces of Media that Superfish is Inspired By
Back to the Future
While this likely held more true when the story had two different sub-plots spanning two different time periods, it is still notable in that DJ’s personality was partly inspired by Marty McFly.
Howl’s Moving Castle (both the film and the novel)
Superfish’s character is heavily based off of Howl, while DJ’s is somewhat based off of Sophie. Their dynamic as they navigate the story is particularly inspired by Sophie and Howl’s dynamic in the novel the Studio Ghibli film is based on. Superfish, unlike Howl’s Moving Castle, focuses a lot more on magic and witchcraft; he has drafted his own “version” of witches for this comic.
Your Name, and Suzume
His art style and storytelling are quite inspired by Studio Ghibli works in general.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Much of the inspiration behind the illustration for the action scenes is derived from here.
The Great Pretender
The art style was partly inspired by this.
C. General Information on the Characters
Being Australian himself, pegl0 imagines all his characters as having an Australian accent.
DJ can speak Hindi and English; his father was North Indian while his mother was South Indian. He wants to pursue teaching as a career.
If Superfish were a human, he would either be a renowned chef who owns his own restaurant or a famous actor/model.
While the story’s protagonist is always going to be DJ, some parts of the story will be shown through Superfish’s perspective.
D. What Is Next For The Superfish Universe
Obscaria is confirmed to be home to at least the following species:
Witches,
Werewolves,
Vampires,
Demons,
Fairies,
Sirens,
And trolls.
Most of these will never appear in the comic. However, pegl0 hopes to expand the Superfish Universe and eventually write more stories set in the same continuity.

Oooh a tricky inquiry to respond to without being a tad overcautious about it. But I’ll try. And please excuse me if I end up answering this unclearly or go on a side tangent <<
I’m fairly protective of my friends and family members. I try my best to prevent them from getting recognized in the crowd of online followers, or at least obscure the legal identities (it’s easier to contact them under an unassuming username). Which is unfortunately not easy to do. It’s out of my hands if they choose to spread the information about my channel to others irl or not. Despite my attempts to separate my personal life from my YouTube channel/digital footprint…I can’t say I’ve done a good job at it lmao. I’ve already snitched & outed my YouTube channel to a couple people in college (because I was being too much of an open book/transparent dumb dumb). I suddenly learned why it’s easier to have alternative accounts for irl people to follow; instead of immediately dragging them into my online interests and getting worried about how they’ll react to all of it. I’m so much more talkative online then how I behave in-person, and I worry it might throw some people off
I’ll spare the details, but the entire online v.s irl has caused me a shocking amount of anxiety. I’ve dug myself into a situation where I have no choice but to accept the fact information could easily get leaked or strung together due to my negligence. It’s partially the reason I don’t use many tags when posting fanart; The more recognized you become online, the more likely people will dig into locating personal information. Or at least that’s how my paranoid mind views it haha. That’s on top of worrying the people irl view me differently now due to how niche my interests tend to be. This whole YouTube thing requires so much more vulnerability then I was anticipating :P
Sorry if I’m being too vague here (or even too detailed). I love the fact people irl care about me want to support me or stay in touch, but it comes with so many unspoken mental hurdles on my end. They’ve learned things about me from my videos that I wasn’t openly sharing in-person. Thankfully I’m slowly learning that anxiety tricks me into believing things are more complicated then actuality. People have no malicious intentions or issues with me, I just assume they do. It’s not them it’s me
On the flip side, have I ever meet online followers who recognize me directly from YouTube and aren’t friends or family irl? No. I’ve never been approached by a stranger who somehow pieces together that I’m the person who makes Mr. Puzzle fanart & animations online lol. Kinda hoping that it stays that way. But there’s no denying I’d be much more happy attending school if I had someone to bond over about SMG4. College is pretty bland when you can’t find people to hang out with. I’ve been able to meet cartoon/animation/video game/musical nerds, but nothing directly attributed to the SMG4 fandom. We still have quite a few overlapping hobbies tho—they are nice people :3
regarding your recent post about the 47MC tier list: i asked some friends (who were apparently credited for helping with the tier list's creation, but were never part of 47MC) about it, and these are the comments i received:
"the tier list sucks, the guy making it asked us for advice and didn't take any of it so it's incredibly biased. source: multiple of the good sweats whose names are unfortunately credited on there. phares is absolutely goated yes. "oh wait yeah what's he doing in there" - live quote from call valyx is unfortunately not that cracked. he's a similar tier to Mordecai (idk why Odetta is up there) but his long animations hold him back. Isaac is also really goated and light's best buffer (not including psiren). he's basically mandatory for most speedruns in light content. tldr: your anger is justified that tier list is ass and we wish we weren't associated with it " - signed: alk

The plot thickens!!!
Jokes aside it's very cool to hear back from anyone that was in any way involved in the list's creation. While I was very very far from true anger, -it's a tierlist for an unfortunately dead game, after all, -it still was something that was occupying my mind like an archaeologist trying to reconstruct the reasoning of the arguments of the Ancients and only becoming more confused.
It's a shame that your advice wasn't taken, though. That can be terrifically frustrating especially when you guys were just trying to provide aid to others for what was best and not.
I am glad to hear though that my instinct on Phares was correct and that my bias had not completely consumed me. I do honestly think he was overlooked with B!Euden coming out soon after and then stealing the wind show permanently! And while I do also know he probably isn't the absolute top tier, especially with him lacking dragon altogether, he's thankfully in an element without Chronos Nyx or another dragon that just so completely warps the element around their usage. What would you guys have evaluated his tier on in 'normal mode', then, or heck even in CoN if you feel it differs from the... S I think he was put into there?
Color me very surprised to hear about Isaac. I was looking at his wiki page, and to me as a 'hardcore casual' (ie, could clear the vast majority of endgame fights but wasn't winning awards in time trials, etc), nothing in his kit looked especially good.
I was like '10% strength/attack rate for 10 seconds? Whoop de doo.' Is it because of his team amp 2 capabilities with his wealdfury? I guess though he does need to be taken in the context of light, which, history of crazy dragons aside, overall fell in this weird power level compared to other elements. The units there always felt a bit less crazy than a lot of the others for some reason, even if they were a bit better off than water for a while.
In any case he's going into the 'I wouldn't personally think him to be that strong but I'll take your word on it!' category since I am certainly certainly not any authority on what was good in dragalia!

I think that's a fair question to ask because it isn't uncommon for jewelry to be a vessel for protective enchantments in various media. And thank you for sharing your thoughts in the subsequent ask that you sent! I'll answer the both of them in one place.
That being said, I think Superfish's earring is likely just a stylistic choice on the creator's part. Especially since he was inspired by Howl Pendragon from Howl's Moving Castle, who also wears earrings.
So far, all of the more powerful enchanted objects that we have seen appear to resemble multicolored swirls that are in constant motion locked within a frame of some kind (See -> The Metaphysics of Enchanted Objects). Superfish's earring, on the other hand, appears rather plain by comparison.
I also think the various character speculatives that Pegl0 draws (e.g. Witch DJ) are more artistic explorations than anything else, and any information that can be gleaned from then is best considered with a grain of salt. The same holds true for his art of a potential child raised by Superfish and DJ, which was likely an exploration of their appearances and aesthetics in combination. Hence, Superfish's earring made its way into the character's aesthetic.
The earring likely also functions to show Superfish's appreciation of beauty and the more ornamental parts that make a life. It is telling that the earring was missing during the nightmare sequence, which is from a time prior to Superfish building his own life away from Obscaria.
It is thus possible that it holds emotional significance. Superfish may have created it using a material from Obscaria as a way to connect himself to his origins right before he made his escape. Which is to say—if his earring is enchanted in any way, it is more likely to be similar to the enchanted paintings or his Vespa.
It could be similar to the enchanted paintings in that its enchantments are more for aesthetic beauty than any constructive purpose.
It could be similar to the Vespa in that it has some very basic enchantments placed on it for it to hold its form and function.
