There were only a very selective few people who could pay the unidecimo cloudian a late night visit and survive to tell the tale . As the door to her apartment was ripped open ( in contrast to the eerily calm knock against the wood ) Pino was greeted with a lethal narrow of her eyes , only relaxing upon the realization of who it was . Though , that did not stop her from scowling at him with a sleepy yawn .
“. . . I’ll make some tea.” She could sense the moment she laid eyes on him that something was wrong , even if he wasn’t openly displaying it . Her stomach was already beginning to twist into knots as she stepped aside , letting him in before she made way to the small kitchen she owned . With her hand resting on the handle of the electric kettle and back turned to Pino , she filled her lungs with air before she allowed her eyes to fall shut .
“Just out with it already,” she all but demanded , though she immediately wished she hadn’t. With just a few spoken words , she felt like the Earth was opening up beneath her and was swallowing her whole . Releasing the kettle , hand trembling , she instead braced herself against the counter edge , sinking down into a crouch .
Head bashing into the cabinets , she leaned into it , knuckles turning white from how hard she was gripping against the counter edge . It took her several minutes to collect herself before she sank to the floor , turning so her back was pressed against the counter . Tears streaked down her face as she looked up at Pino , pitiful and vulnerable .
A hand rose for him , fingers trembling , before falling listlessly at her side again . Her eyes flitted to the fridge , a shaky and wet laugh escaping her . “I made . . . I made him lunch . . . He taught me how . . . I was proud of it , and now . . . Now he’s gone?”
