YES!! I will NEVER stop fighting and advocating for Inclusive Education for ALL. Meaningful inclusion needs to be the default placement with all modifications and accomodations being made in the best interest of the individual student and not the last resort/offer as it is now. Teachers and staff also deserve the correct training and facts on this issue from districts and school administration! We want Blake’s teacher to know, just because he cannot speak it doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand. School funding shouldn’t be used to fight parents with lawyers to segregate their child, which all research PROVES is detrimental educationally and socially. It should be used for teacher training, additional service providers (Speech, OT, etc) and accommodations. Over 40 years of peer reviewed research concludes meaningful inclusion is the best placement for a student with Down Syndrome, like my son Blake! I am so glad I fought for my son, educated myself and believed in his ability to learn 👊🏻 he is learning and growing at a rate he would never in a “special day class”.
