💫🧚♀️ We are celebrating World Down Syndrome Day from Neverland ☁️ 🌈 The analogy is perfect: You cannot get to Neverland without a guide like Peter Pan … you are afraid to go with him (or her) into the unknown but once you arrive you are surrounded with so much beauty your fears dissipate as fast as they arrived. When you are in Neverland you are forever young; celebrating and enjoying things that are not “Age appropriate” according to society and happy to do so. There are villians and challenges here that we also must face and overcome every, single day. Somehow we always seem to. The things we once thought important cease to be and you have an entirely new perspective and outlook on the world and all the people in it once you’ve been there. People who have never been to Neverland will never truly understand the complexities, beauty, heartbreak and triumphs that await you there. I feel sorry for them, not for Blake, Amelia or anyone else who is a member of this diverse and rich community. 💫 our wish is the same every year. Please include our kids. Please educate yourselves and be a vessel of education and accurate information for others around you. Last week I had the pleasure of transferring almost 5,000 Vintage dresses to their new caretaker. Part 3/3: I’m so thankful to have been able to stand in her energy multiple times. I can impart first hand that she was incredibly witty, funny, polite and sassy AF. She was authentic, guarded yet vulnerable. I was so proud to see her wearing one of my vintage cocktail rings during the last shows of her very last tour. She loved it. I gave it to her as a gift of thanks for all she has given me musically. Music is the ultimate connector. She loved statement jewelry like I do. We had a lengthy discussion about it and fashion. I was able to share images of her with Gianni Versace she had never seen before. Once I brought her an unfinished portrait of her and asked her to sign it for me. She was so complimentary and sweet. I think she appreciated when other people put themselves out there and shared vulnerability though Art of any kind. I think I’ll finish it this upcoming week and hang it. It’s sat for years, tucked away maybe waiting for this moment. What legacy will you leave? Are there things you want to do? Has your “voice” been heard/ shared? If not this should serve as a reminder that we all think we have time … we don’t. Life goes so fast and can be gone instantly. Hug your loved ones if you are able. Call and tell someone you love them. Apologize where needed. Take ownership. Run toward your dreams like the world is on fire, because it is. Part 2/3: I’m so thankful Lisa was so brave and bold in sharing her gifts. I’ve always enjoyed her music. She spoke her truth. She was a no BS kind of person. Rightfully guarded but with her heart on her sleeve for all to see, criticize and judge. Fame and money do not shield anyone from the pain, loss and tragedy we all suffer in this life. I would argue that they magnify. them. She tried to find her way like we all do but every word, look, and step was scrutinized, often misconstrued and always exploited for someone else’s profit. We all have the luxury of being humbled and heartbroken in private. To suffer the loss of a child is something many of us cannot even fathom and even fewer have experienced. I could never imagine how this impacted her. 💔 She was also giving and philanthropic. She fought against the psychiatric drugging of children in schools and testified to Congress acting on behalf of The Citizens Commission for Human Rights. She formed The Presley Foundation (2007) and opened Presley Place Memphis and one in NOLA, a transitional housing facility for homeless families. She has tirelessly helped preserve her fathers legacy alongside her mother Priscilla for current and future generations of music lovers to enjoy and explore. Post 1/3: I am so saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of Lisa Marie Presley. My heart breaks as a mother for her 3 daughters - @rileykeough - I feel deeply for her mother, countless friends, extended family, loved ones and fans around the world. A sudden, tragic death makes me think about the concept of legacy, what we leave behind. Lisa left a legacy of songwriting and music. I couldn’t imagine what it took for her to step out of her fathers giant shadow to create her own songs and find her own unique voice. An even bigger feat to share it knowing how blinding of a spotlight she’s under and the unapologetic ignorant society she couldn’t escape. A spotlight she was born into and didn’t seek. I feel her talents in this area were largely underrated and always judged so harshly and compared so relentlessly. Viva Frida: With a packed schedule I’m just sitting down to relive this fantastic experience of the immersive art display of my favorite artist, Frida Kahlo. I went to Hollywood last Friday where my love for Frida’s work was renewed. I enjoyed how the social, political and personal climate/Elements from Frida’s life were displayed and symbolized. The details of paintings were displayed along with photographs brilliantly. A few crucial paintings were not included in the display (for me) but overall I really loved the experience. I wondered how I would curate it given her body of work is approximately 200 paintings, various drawings/lithographs and she kept a diary for the last 10 years of her life. Then there is her wardrobe and jewelry. Day one? Or One Day? The exact question I posed to myself a year ago when I decided to leave alcohol behind for good. This past year has been full of growth, lessons learned and a realization about how our society is obsessed with drinking. On our hike yesterday I came upon a champagne cork left behind from someone’s New Year’s celebration on the beach. It was so symbolic to come across it yesterday, on New Year’s day when indeed I am in 12 million ways a “New Me”. It reinforced my decision, path and made me chuckle about how I used to view things and what was important to me. What I know to be true for me in this moment after 12 months alcohol free: ✔️ My mental and emotional health has significantly improved. My anxiety has substantially decreased. ✔️ My healing is progressing forward ✔️ There is a societal stigma about sobriety and many misconceptions. I must have been a raging alcoholic to choose this lifestyle, right? Wrong. ✔️ I have a renewed sense of gratitude about life and view it through a clean lens. ✔️ I’m more motivated than ever to follow my creative visions and not let fear hold me back. ✔️ I feel more vulnerable than I ever have and there is strength in this space. ✔️ I feel more spiritually aligned and I’m confronting everything I have suppressed and over obligated myself away from.
