Ya know the post-prison c!Wilbur interaction [vod] has always kinda bothered me because why give in. I mean we know c!Dream’s motive isn’t really power over c!Wilbur, instead one of the biggest reasons for his revival I think was likely an act of desperation for escape in the midst of months of daily torture. So if c!Wilbur’s leverage is bogus then why give in. And upon rewatching it today I wonder if it’s because - he just wanted to be left alone. Sure he could have fought and killed them but then that brings people to his door trying for revenge or to get them revived, or both. Sure he could have refused c!Wilbur but isn’t that how he ended up being tortured in prison for almost a year…

See I’m starting to wonder if what c!Wilbur didn’t realize is that c!Dream already lost everything in prison, he has already been helpless and humiliated and begged on his knees and obeyed with “yes sir” falling from his lips just to minimize the pain and keep breathing another day. Maybe c!Wilbur thinks its obedience because of his leverage, that he ‘knows c!Dream so well,’ when its actually about something else. Just like c!Dream coming back after c!Tommy kills him in staged finale. Maybe c!Dream is just so tired of them all. He doesn’t follow through with any of his threats except the ones for his torturer because it probably all seems so trivial now, what are discs and politics in the face of torture, in the face of death. In the face of what he just survived and what he fears is coming, what are c!Tommy’s and c!Wilbur’s antics except a way to bring the whole server to his doorstep. After all, I think one of the reasons he left the disc under c!Tommy’s house was to keep him away by making him too terrified, so wouldn’t it make sense here to give in, in hopes that if he gives them what they want they’ll be satisfied and not come back. And maybe that’s why he’s also so pissed in the finales about c!Tubbo and c!Tomny’s assassination - he left them alone, he gave them everything they wanted, and yet still they came to his home to murder him in his sleep because how dare he try and live his life, how dare he try and just coexist…

Why didn’t Wilbur just kill Dream in Inconsolable Differences?

Like- he literally thought about doing it! He thought about going to the prison and beating the shit out of Dream but he didn’t and what he actually did only hurt Tommy more. I know that says something about his character but god I wanted to see Wilbur redeemed and Dream dead.

You can say what you want about the quality drop of 2022 DSMP but im always going to stand by Inconsolable Differences being such a good fucking stream. Like, seeing Wilbur’s reactions to exile and how she immediately jumps in to deal with Dream herself and how Tommy still trusts Wilbur so much after everything as to give him the discs and how Wilbur basically used herself as bait because he probably didn’t really care either way if the lava killed her or not because it would still be a win for him and HOW EVERYONE THOUGHT WILBUR ACTUALLY BURNT THE DISCS BUT NO. NO SHE KEPT THEM AND KEPT HER WORD AND GAVE TOMMY SOME RELIEF FOR THE FIRST TIME IN GOD KNOWS HOW LONG it’s such a fucking good stream and doesn’t deserve to be lumped in with the dropping quality of 2022 dsmp to me

People crit Boundless Sands a lot and that's valid, but GOD. Inconsolable Differences was a fucking trainwreck. Like everything you thought was going to go right didn't. And Wilbur thought it was a victory. It’s just like a shitty protective thing which Tommy needed but it’s somehow the only situation where tommy can be free of dream? Like it might be cool for it to be a self-gratifying thing <- bc wilbur is known for that but.

And then for Wilbur to put Tommy's most precious items in the hands of Dream all for some big fucking act, and all tommy is can do is watch and be horrified as two of the most timebomb people on earth play with his heart. first his discs, then Wilbur's life. It really just. I don’t know how else to explain it its just BAD. like none of the emotional disturbance or the wrong wilbur did like taking advantage of tommy’s emotions (“you did this to prove one of your stupid points”)
