‘ sit still and let me take a look! ’
IT WAS A hazard of brewing elixirs with chuchu jelly. once heated over a fire a bit too much it could turn red, & the collisions with other ingredients in the pot could set it alight in an instant. these were all things that zelda was aware of, hence why she tended to put the chuchu jelly in last, letting it merge with the other ingredients before it had the chance to heat too much. but, in her distraction, she had added them in at the same time as everything else.
LUCKILY, SHE HAD been quick, & so the burns on her palms weren’t too bad. she had set aside some water for her work anyways, & a quick drop of a clump of white chuchu jelly into the bowl & it was cold enough to begin to cool her hands. as focused as she was on her sudden task, zelda almost missed the gasp from the doorway completely.
HER HANDS ROSE from the water quickly, & she hissed softly at the soreness as she curled them into gentle fists, attempting to hide the damage as her guest approached.
❝ it’s alright! it’s okay! i just had a bit of a mix––––up with the ingredients i was using. ❞
SHE STARTED PACING, intent on stopping peach from seeing the injury, her intent to stop her from worrying too much about a mistake that she could handle herself.
❝ it was just a silly mistake, & i know to be much more careful next time. i really should begin to search for a different way to use chuchu jelly, or maybe a way to avoid using it entirely. in fact, i think if i–––– . ❞
sit still & let me take a look.
SOMETHING IN PEACH’S tone made zelda freeze. it wasn’t the frustration or raising of her voice, it was the panic–––– she was worried–––– & zelda found herself suddenly lenient at the realization. the last thing she wanted was to cause any distress, & it seemed that not showing her the injury was causing more misery than just proving she had it under control, & that just wouldn’t do.
❝ oh–––– alright. here. ❞
FINALLY, ZELDA UNCURLED her fingers as she lowered herself back into her chair, showing off the minor damage that her accident had caused while taking a good look at it herself. the skin was red, but other than that & a bit of a sting, she was just fine. any major damage had been avoided.
SHE SPOKE SOFTLY, much calmer than the flurry that had originally left her upon the other princess’ entrance.
❝ with the right salve & a bandage, it will be fine in a day or two. i’m sure of it. ❞
ALL SHE COULD do was hope that her reassurance helped.
