Pet Peeve: People Blaming Fat When Really What They Mean is Sugar
So I was reading this scientific study on food addiction: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2352853215000243
And in the summary and the conclusion it stated “higher intakes of fat were associated with higher odds of FAD [food addiction]“ but when you actually look at what they say in the other areas of the study it really says, “The FAD group had a... higher percentage energy intake (%E) from energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods including candy, take out and baked sweet products“... THAT my friends, is almost exclusively SUGAR not fat!
And the same thing occurred in a TV show I watched called “The Secrets Behind Fat” or something (it was a while ago... it was on Lifestyle so not exactly a credible source :p). One of the segments was that they scanned her brain and compared it to that of obese people when they were shown various foods. She says “See how the brain lights up when shown these fatty foods” but then pictures of exclusively cake and desserts came up...
It just annoys me that people lump fat and sugar together and don’t even think of making them independent. And it really results in incorrect reporting of fact.
If someone had just read the summary of that study they would have come away with completely incorrect information... And that is why the dietary fat phobic culture still persists!
Rant Over.
