then, hatless and trembling with wrath, I ordered the miscreants to let me out--on their peril to keep me one minute longer--with several incoherent threats of retaliation that, in their indefinite depth of virulency, smacked of King Lear.
I cheated a bit and pulled from the end of last page to get that whole quote because look at it. Look at it.
That shit is gold.
The "indefinite depth of virulency" is, I think my favorite part.
The vehemence of my agitation brought on a copious bleeding at the nose, and still Heathcliff laughed, and still I scolded.
I'm sorry Lockwood but that is actually kind of hilarious. You're yelling so furiously that you get a nosebleed? My mental image of you just dropped like five years and raised a couple thousand pounds.
This probably would have continued until Lockwood died of blood loss had it not been for the arrival of... THE LUSTY DAME! Well, now she's termed "Zillah, the stout housewife" but I know it's the same woman.
She starts verbally laying into Hareton Earnshaw for abusing their guest so and then tells Lockwood to calm down and get inside.
With these words she suddenly splashed a pint of icy water down my neck, and pulled me into the kitchen.
Hysterical man in the snow on the doorstep? DUMP COLD WATER ON HIM. Man I love this woman.
Lockwood feels like crap, dizzy and light-headed - as one might expect when one has suffered blood loss and the onset of a chill - and is unwillingly forced to stay. Zillah, on orders of The Master (Heathcliff) gives him a bit o' brandy and chatters sympathetically at him until he's well enough to be taken to his room.
THUS ENDS CHAPTER TWO.
But wait, there's more! Chapter three begins on the same page!
There is not a whole lot of it, though. Well, there's an entire paragraph, but the paragraph basically consists of Zillah telling Lockwood to be quiet, because the room she's taking him to is off limits, and no she doesn't know why, she's only been there a couple of years and the entire household is nuts.
Lockwood is too tired to give a damn and tomorrow we get to look forward to... more room description! Hurrah.
