does American gods have a point?
so if you have read the book then you will understand that the worship of gods brings them into existence in a place.
I know Neil Gaiman didn’t want it to be taken seriously, but i think the thought is interesting, that in a place a god is worshipped they have power and as long as they have a large religious following they can still influence the environment, but as soon as they fall out of the public beliefs, they lose their power but still exist.
my main question if someone is to believe this theological idea, that belief is powerful enough to create powerful beings, should people in “new countries” like Australia, USA, Peru and other additions to European maps worship European gods, and old-world gods that are not indigenous to the land.
as someone from Australia, I want more thought on, what gods i should worship as a witch/non-christian/pagan? and which ones would be best for influence in a previous non-European dominate country?
this post is for a discussion and equality of religions.
another similar question related to this thought, would it be ethical for a non-indigenous person to worship indigenous gods in areas that have issues with colonisation and cultural erasure/appropriation
