Ubud Bali- Temples

We visited two temples in Bali. The first was very small in the center of Ubud. It is free entrance and although a lot of it was closed to the public you could still walk around and admire the beautiful stone work

And statues that surrounded the area.

The second temple wasTirta Empul Tampak Siring - the water temple. This area was huge and because it was a Sunday it was quite crowded with Balinese.  You have to put on a Sarong to enter the water temple and pay 2$. They very kindly provide Sarongs for you if you do not have your own.

In the center of the temple is a large pool that has an underground spring. This pool’s water levels never lower, even in the dry season so it is said that this god

Has provided this water to the people and it is holy water.

It is extremely peaceful watching the spring well up in the pool as prayer bells can be heard all around.

On the other side of the pool is a series of pools for washing. Stone spigots pour the whole water into the pools and after placing offerings the Balinese rinse in each other the spigots in order to wash away bad spirits and cleanse the soul.

You can participate as a tourist as well, but not with the temple-provided sarongs. You must bring your own. Because it was Sunday the line was very long.

All around this central holy water-washing are statues and ornate and intricate alters. It’s a very beautiful place.
