🐱INDOOR KITTY🏡
Impulsiveness doesn’t suit Kira at all. He’s always prided himself on how well he’s kept his urges separate from his public persona, how he only indulges when he’s made room for it in his busy schedule. He’s not a pervert, or a weirdo, just a man with a few unusual hobbies he keeps mostly to himself. The fact that society at large condemns them isn’t his concern.
At least, it didn’t use to be.
Living as Kawajiri Kosaku and navigating the uncertain marriage he left behind, Kira struggles to cope. Leopards can't change their spots, after all.

Miao was living feral under my house when I moved in. He had been living in an asbestos remediated house up the road and fled to live under my place when it got demolished. The previous tenant would feed him sporadically as she was away a lot. And he would scavenge what he could from local cafe bins. When I moved in, I made it my goal to fully adopt him and attempt to socialise him as much as possible in the hope he might accept living indoors at least part time. He was very skittish when I first met him and he would run and hide as soon as he saw humans. Slowly, over the past year, he started to accept and trust me, and seeing me interact with Nala, who often visited, gave him lots of confidence. He went from hiding under the deck when I put out food for him, to waiting nearby on the deck, to sitting on the mat and letting me put his dishes in front of him. He also finally accepted the cosy bed and heating pad I bought him, and rarely leaves it on cold days. It was my greatest hope he would start coming inside, and last week, for the first time, after a year of patience, he did! A quick explore, then the next time a more relaxed explore and now he eats his meals in my kitchen. I still can’t touch him or get very close without a barrier between us like the screen door, but I’ve put up a beaded curtain for him so he can come and go in a more relaxed fashion when I am home. I haven’t tried to catch him to take him to the vet yet, as I do not want to betray his trust while it is still so fragile. Seeing an anxious, skinny feral change over the past year, into a relaxed, plump kitty who looks like he lives a pampered life, has brought me so much joy. Ferals are worth the effort. 😻
