It was colder inside the tower than Sunshine had expected, especially compared to the humid weather outside. Blue eyes scan the area and black ears twitch as the hedgehog and his team make their way through each room, going up floor after floor in search of any signs of Sol or Pandora. It was eerily quiet, the only sounds being the hedgehog and his team’s footsteps on the metal floor and the soft whirring and humming of the machinery all around them in the dimly lit corridors. Sunshine peeks around a corner before signaling his team and entering yet another corridor that was identical to every other before it, checking each room as he goes. Just as he reaches the end of the corridor a strange feeling washes over the hedgehog and everything goes completely silent, he forces a pair of sliding doors open only to be met with a long hallway with a large window stretching along the entire length of one wall that looked out into the endless vacuum of space with the planet spinning slowly below.

“What the hell? Is this…home?” He murmurs softly in confusion, turning to address his team and finding nothing but an empty stretch of hallway and a blank wall where the doors should have been. His teammates had seemingly disappeared into thin air, leaving him totally alone. Or so he thought. "Well well well, what do we have here? Looks like a little rat has been sneaking about where he doesn't belong. Hello dearest, it's been a long time" an ominous voice purrs from seemingly nowhere and everywhere at the same time, sending chills down Sunshine's spine. "Do not call me that, you lost your right to pet names four years ago. Where are my son and Pandora? I know that they've been with here with you this whole time" Sunshine calls out into the dark, a Chaos Spear forming in his hand as he looks around to try and spot the sadistic jackal. "Your mind games won't work on me anymore so you might as well just give up, Zero. I know why you're showing me this place, you think that I'll still breakdown at the memories of what happened here. You're wrong. I've moved on from my past, I won't let it control me anymore!"

"Is that so? Then why do you still have nightmares about not only what happened to your sister, but what happened to Sol as well? If you have truly moved on, you wouldn't be here looking for the boy right now" Infinite laughs, warping their surroundings to what appeared to be a high-tech prison cell with various pieces of medical equipment and a hospital bed, as well as various surveillance cameras. The sound of agonized screaming and sobbing echo in the tiny room, leaving the hedgehog frozen when he recognizes the sounds as his own voice along with the cries of a newborn taking their first breath.

Screaming. Crying. Pain. Grief. Loneliness. Those were the feelings that were buzzing around in Sunshine's head as he's consumed by Infinite's illusion, taking him back to one of the worst moments of his life and forcing him to relive it in vivid detail. "N-No...please don't take him. I just want my baby. I just want to take my son home..." The hedgehog sobs from where he was kneeling on the floor, hands over his ears and head tucked between his knees as he tries to block out the ear piercing noises that were growing louder and louder around him. He takes a deep breath and screams for help.

last night i had a dream where i found a smol babie infinite on my porch and decided to adopt him

shadfinite fankids are genuinely so interesting to me from a character analysis perspective... like. i do not think, for one, they would have kids intentionally—multiple reasons for this.

both, i believe, would doubt that they would be good parents, given the trauma and various horrors. on top of this, shadow is half-alien, and infinite is fused with a magic gem that has altered his body. they have no way of knowing how this would affect offspring or what the child would inherit as a result, if they could even conceive. but if they could, regardless of its abilities, it would no doubt be the subject of interest from G.U.N, eggman... and surely many other nefarious individuals. the child of two of the most powerful beings alive is going to garner attention. who wouldn't be intrigued? i think neither, knowing that, would want to put a child in that position. it'd be a dangerous, foolish risk.

in other words: it'd be an accident.

anyone who's been here a while knows i'm a trans infinite truther, and the angle i'm taking personally for this is him carrying. although i have no fankids canon to eternal chaos, my infinite in eternal chaos, as well as other canons, is infertile. or in this case—supposedly. so like, for that reason... nothing to worry about right? that's essentially how i see it happening; they're not going to fuck around with something like that, but if they thought it safe, then not taking precautions as a result would be their mistake. overconfidence and misplaced certainty.

infinite can't get knocked up? yeah, maybe that was before the ruby fucked with him. or maybe shadow's alienisms don't care about that, oops, get pregnant anyway loser—the latter tends to be what i go with, but it could be one or the other or a combination of both.

obviously, they'd be incredibly agitated upon learning of the pregnancy; as stated, i think they'd both strongly doubt in their parental capabilities (even infinite, as much as he masks his insecurity about where he lacks with ego, would not argue this one) and have many concerns about what would transpire with the inevitable interest in their offspring. but also, they have no idea what to expect for the duration of the pregnancy itself—it's unprecedented, and nothing like it has happened before because shadow is a unique hybrid and infinite's situation is equally individual with the ruby.

depending on whether they're enemies with benefits or established partners, the reactions could be different, but in any scenario i think they would be freaking out, concerned, and shadow would carry a sense of guilt because as much as it is the product of both of their negligence, he's the one that impregnated him, and is not the one bearing the consequences within his own body.

both of them likely lean toward attempting termination due to the extensive risks, though i can see potentially a dynamic in which emotional attachment dissuades them. if they do attempt, it does not work; at which point the only options would be to try surgical extraction or to keep it.

despite them both being apprehensive and fearful (something infinite is especially struggling with), due to established or growing emotional ties and possible lack of access or reliability with trying to remove it, they make the decision to keep it.

pregnancy, for infinite, would honestly be such a challenging thing—because not only is it a huge, overwhelming experience in general, he has such a deep-rooted aversion to weakness and needing to be cared for; something that shadow will have to provide him throughout the course of it. it would feel like he himself is being infantilised; like he is helpless, pathetic, incapable. it would feel humiliating. especially when it's shadow—the man he has always grappled with seeing as superior, and was desperate to prove himself equal to if not stronger than.

this is a personal thing, but i think infinite also secretly does crave care; to be looked after for once after a lifetime of struggle, after being responsible for his squad, of trying to adhere to the idea of always being in control, a strong, infallible leader. this would force him to confront that—and make him even more frustrated than he already is as he tries to deny the truth, which is so shameful to him. he'd rather gnaw off a limb than admit he wants to treated that way.

he would be angered by it initially, the way shadow's touches soften, the vigilance, the protectiveness—shadow would be somewhat smothering at times, itching to keep both infinite and their offspring safe, his own trauma triggering anxious responses to perceived danger. it would be strengthened by his guilt at, again, directing more blame onto himself for the situation, but he would be a very kind and dutiful caretaker i think regardless, honestly—and more patient than infinite can understand in response to infinite's own emotional outbursts.

it would force infinite to learn to accept care, and make peace with his natural, suppressed desire to be given it; it would force them to communicate more. they'd grow closer through the experience i think, made to face things they might not otherwise. but, yeah, putting infinite, who hates relying on anyone, who despises vulnerability, in a position where he has no choice but to be cared for, that's a huge part of the appeal for me.

i see them as having three pups in the end, with only children being more uncommon for species that produce litters, which is like. definitely something they have to process. and honestly, i could understand it going the other way, but i don't think it's impossible that they could be good parents? maybe that's my traumatised ass talking, but. i can see them trying so hard to not continue the cycle of trauma and keeping each other in check; they don't want their kids to go through what they did.

having both lost people close to them and blaming themselves, and with the awareness there are actual threats that could desire to abduct and harm them, they'd be very protective, and infinite would struggle with trying not to repeat the parenting style he grew up with (headcanon) in that he would find himself trying to make sure his kids are strong, only to realise his fear-driven pushing will only hurt them just as it fucked him up himself.

anyway, i think it's a really interesting concept and i haven't seen much discussion about it—so these are my thoughts!
