So I was chatting to Dee @infinitevariety about strange American expressions, and in particular, I mentioned the saying “well, slap my grandma!” in the American South. It basically means “That’s very good!” or “Oh wow!”

We’re weird down there. The heat melts our brains a bit.

Anyway, I went about my work day, and last night, Dee left a lovely comment on my most recent fic. This is the last line of that comment:

A Matching Pair Of Fools

This was foolish, Aziraphale decided.

This was foolish, the whole idea was foolish, and he himself was the greatest fool of all. Oh, he knew his sister had meant well, and undoubtedly her friend had too. What neither apparently understood was that Aziraphale was difficult. He was difficult to love, to even tolerate, with his very particular standards regarding everything from attire to zebra crossings. To expect some unknown friend-of-a-friend’s coworker to overlook all of that for the sake of a blind date…

He turned at the corner and paced back towards the restaurant again. His hands twisted together against his belly, possibly wearing a hole through his winter coat by this point, but he’d been unable to wait any longer before making the walk over to the restaurant. It made sense to arrive a bit ahead of time, didn’t it? Sort of… scope out the place? Although yes, an hour and change early was probably too early, especially with the mercury dipped so low. He’d just been so nervous that it was either this or begin reorganizing the bookshop again.

Infinite Variety: Part 1

This weekend I made a quick trip to Jersey City and NYC.  Stopping Jersey City meant sharing some swug wuvin' with some of my favorite gals (and dinner at Skinner's Loft.  If you are in Jersey City, eat there!) and a night of laughter (and tears).  It's wonderful how good friends fill your soul.

On Sunday, Becky and I headed in to NYC to view Infinite Variety and Quilt Masterworks both shows presented by the American Folk Art Museum.

Infinite Variety was amazing and I'll cover some of the quilts I saw there in the next few posts.

The 650+ quilts were set up in a simple but breathtaking style.  Set up in smaller rounds to mimic the idea that most quilts were created in a community setting, this exhibit acknowledged the beauty of the space it was in and allowed the beautiful artwork evident in the quilts to shine.

The lighting did a wonderful job highlighting the patterns, too.

I also enjoyed the display towards the back of the room that included a wall of quilts.

It was really great to see so many styles of block making, appliqué and quilting in one space.
