| Infinity Scarf Tutorial |
Thank you derpysnerp from r/geekcrafts for the interest in my scarfs! You asked, so here it is - the tutorial for my infinity scarfs.
The following will show you how I make the scarfs I sell on my Storenvy. I tried a couple different tutorials, but didn't like them all that much, so I did some testing and found this method. This pattern will give you two to four scarfs (depending on if you use two types of material or one) that measure 10 inches wide by 26.5 inches long and can wrap around an adult's neck twice.
Materials: ~Front and back fabric, 1.5 yards each (makes 2 scarfs) ~Scissors ~Thread ~Pins ~Zipper foot (not required)
[1] Measure and cut both front and back materials 10 inches wide by 54 inches (1.5 yards). I chose a gray polyester and Adventure Time mathematical printed cotton and can create four scarfs out of this pattern (yay!).
[2] Pin the long end of two materials facing each other. Because the two materials I chose are different elasticities and that makes it a little more difficult to stitch at times, I like placing my pins about an inch apart.
[3] Giving yourself a 1/2 inch seam allowance, sew the pinned edge, locking your ends.
Be sure all pins are removed and it should look like this when laid flat:
[4] Fold your soon-to-be-scarf in half matching the two ends face-to-face. I like to start at the center seam to ensure they line up nicely.
[5] Giving yourself a 1/2 inch seam allowance, sew the pinned edge, locking your ends. (No photo for you! It's the same as #3). Your scarf should start to take shape and be circular.
[6] Remove your pins and flip right side out and pin to make a top-stitch seam by folding the two edges in on themselves.
[7] I've found that top stitching these scarfs is a lot easier if I use my zipper foot, but if you don't have one, the standard foot will work fine. Stitch as close to the edge as you can locking your ends.
If you haven't already, remove your pins.
And you're done! Snip your extra thread and wear with style.
