Ok so the cliffhanger was that Hazels actually a wereturtle thing. Lots of people are talking about how she was a denizen all along but I personally don’t think that’s true. I think Hazel was a normal human who got onto the train because of a problem in her life. At one point she must have encountered a wereturtle and got bitten. Because she was chemically changed to be something from the train, the train is confused on where to place her number. She’s still a human, but she’s also been changed to be a denizen. To compromise I think the train decided to let her keep her number, since at first glance she’s just a normal human, but get rid of the glow to represent that she was changed to being a denizen.
