The major writing websites, in a nutshell
Fanfiction.net: People too stubborn to migrate to Ao3 with everyone else. Good stuff but most of the site is dead except for the older millennials. No one under 15.
Ao3: Slightly trashy but could be way worse. Some good stuff on there honestly. Mostly seasoned writers from FFN who left.
Wattpad: OH MY LORD HOLY HELL WTF IT’S JUST LEMONS. LEMONS WRITTEN BY MIDDLE SCHOOLERS AND NOTHING ELSE WHAT THE FU-

Some art advice
Something I’ve learned over the years that I’ve been an artist is that you can’t work to please your idols.
More often than not, when I make a piece hoping that it will be reblogged by some big artist that I admire, it hardly gets noticed. It might get a few notes, maybe 30 at best. And that gets me downhearted and glum.
The funny thing is, when I’m not working to please those I consider better than I am, that’s when a work gets noticed. Most of the time in these cases, I’m not really trying that hard. I’m not striving for a perfection that I cannot reach.
The difference between these two styles of work is that the first is detached from you. It’s tailored to what you think someone else will like. Perhaps it does get reblogged and you enjoy a moment of fame, maybe a follower or two. But if you aren’t making that content all the time, you will lose those people.
But when an artist makes something for themselves, something that they like, something that they’re not striving to make perfect, a very special thing happens. The heart of the artist is put into that work, and the viewers can feel that. And that is what sets a viewer’s heart on fire. That is what gets the attention of the masses. People can tell when you put your heart into your work. And when your heart is in your work, it just makes it better.
True happiness with your art can never be attained if you only work with the objective to get noticed by a famous person. Satisfaction with your work can only be found if you make what you love.
