We have the before, & after, reno of a 1975 home in Dundee, IL. It had 2bds, 3ba, 2,828sqft, and after reno, it has 4bds, 3.5ba, 3,360sqft. The Before price was $931,914 and the After price was $875,774, A local realtor has it listed for $2.45m. Both were removed from the market, because neither version sold.

The After. I hate when they remove trees. I do love the dogs on the lawn, though.

It was originally rustic.

And, this is the new living room. They even redid the fireplace with new stone. It's lighter, b/c they put in a wall of windows and eliminated the wood walls.

There was a spiral staircase next to the fireplace, going up to a loft, and it was replaced with regular stairs.

There was a bed in the loft.

And, this is bedroom #2.

The loft is still open, but it's unclear if this bed is against the fireplace chimney in the loft.

And, they put in a huge bath.

It looks like they built a hallway for the extra bedrooms and baths.

There are no basement photos of the old house, but the new one has this rec room.

Here's a 2017 castle house in Nicholasville, KY, found by flusterstruck. The difference is that these people really made an effort to make it look like a modern-day castle. The 6bd, 6.5ba, 10,624sqft home is priced at $3.48m.

In the entrance foyer, there are very heavy castle looking doors.

The doors swing open to reveal a sitting room with simulated old castle walls.

It's a round tower room with reproductions of an authentic light and a stick ceiling. I love this room.

But, moving down the main hall, there is an open, modern layout with stone walls.

It features arches, nooks, and a beamed ceiling.

The powder room has a very medieval look with it's heavy wood and metal sink and simulated medieval style toilet.

There's a bar in a nook.

Through these arches in a stone wall, there's the dining room.

There's a very large, modern primary bedroom.

It has a massive ensuite bath.

Very large shower with interesting tiles.

Through the bath, there's a boutique closet/dressing room.

Coming down the stairs looks like a wall of casks. I would've put them closer- you can tell it's just the tops.

That wall continues on down the hall to the very large rec room and bar.

To the side of the bar there's a hobbit door to the wine cellar.

It's a comfortable room that looks like a winery. Love the mural.

There's also an open home theater. I don't know why the theater is open. Seems like it would be disturbing if there were people with the lights on and making noise in the game room.

The basement is very open concept and there's even an open shower room.

And, a very large children's room.

There's also a separate guest quarters. It sleeps lots of guests.

There's an inground pool and patio in the back and 5 acres of land.
