I just finished the Inheritance series and I'm just so pissed about that shitty movie all over again. I read Eragon when it first came out and then Eldest was one of my favorite books. I thought it was amazing. Then I saw that abomination of a film and it kind of ruined the whole thing for me. I got the third book and read a little of it, but I was so disheartened by the movie that I just didn't want to continue. Nearly 3 years passed and I finally found the book again in the trunk of my car and decided to give it another shot. It was great, probably my favorite of the series and I was lucky enough to find Inheritance for 6 bucks soon after. Now that it's finished, I keep thinking about how great they would all be as movies and then I remember. But the thing is, I still REALLY want movies for these. Anyone involved with the original obviously shouldn't be allowed to touch it with a ten foot pole, but now that a lot of book-to-movies are starting to get consistently good, I would like someone to give it another shot. Especially now that book movies are being split into parts and while Eragon itself may be short enough for one movie, the rest certainly are not. Also, I remember people complaining that Eragon was basically just a rehashed Star Wars, which I could see the similarities, but never payed much mind to it. Looking back though, it was totally Star Wars, but in an equally cool, far more thought out and complex setting. I mean obviously Brom was the ObiWan character and Oromis was Yoda. The riders were the Jedi, and even the later books mimicked the original trilogy, with Brisingr probably diverging the most. This was all especially evident to me in the final confrontation with Galbatorix. It almost perfectly matched the Return of the Jedi conclusion. That being said, this is in no way a bad thing. I fucking love the story in Star Wars and would gladly see a billion interpretations of it, especially when they're as carefully thought out as the Inheritance cycle. Apparently a fifth book is under way, which kind of undermines the whole "Cycle" thing, but it was supposed to be a trilogy anyway. I just hope it isn't strictly a sequel. I'd like to see it about a different character, perhaps Murtaugh or a new rider. I also don't want a new threat as bad as Galbatrix to emerge like a year later like in the Percy Jackson books. Let them have a little peace for a while. As far as threats go, I'd love to see something new and mysterious come from one of the new nations Eragon might encounter, but we'll see. Overall I'm very happy with the ending and satisfied with the series as a whole.
